Bkf and Maccarrone may be putting in the effort, but realistically, they are not players to build a team around.Realistically only the backs are worth anything but they are continually getting skinned. On paper they are as good as anything else going around. One Aussie international and one greek international as cb's. The real problem is midfield.Sack the lot and get some quality in.
If JA was copying SFC by getting older players,it's strange he didnt copy their style of play.No strong defence. No strong DM's .No pressing. No playmaker. Not even pace up front...But the failed three at the back....Even without the injuries,it's hard to see what the plan was.Everything looks like an amateur coach trying things without really understanding the consequences. Arnie won with with older players so lets try that.Ange and Euro managers have success with three at the back so lets try that.

Across the entire squad I would keep - Macca for one more season - Considering our table position and the fact he has scored no penalties (I think) his return has been good - FBK for one more season - He has been the form outfield player for the past 3 games - Eric the only one worth marquee status - Kristenson - O'Tool - Devere, Avraam, Pepper (I'll admit I was wrong - but he's a defender not a DM) - Young Hingert, Bowles, don't care either way The rest should be on their way - sorry Matty but it's time to leave the tribe.

What scares me the most is not who stays and who goes, but who is going to do the recruiting?
We seem to have signed players without considering the style of football we want to play, if we have to bring in a dozen players next season the potential for cock-up is HUGE

+xHope Caletti is at least a first xi player for you guys next season. Liked him last year, but don't think he can play DM due to his size. Could play AM, but difficult to find a role for him if we aren't playing 4 in midfield.

Agree Clockwork. At one point this season Caletti had the greatest number of consecutive appearances for Brisbane at something just over 30 but the latter stages he was generally average. But I guess that happens, kids playing in a side that’s playing poorly struggle more than most.

@ clockwork
4231 is the formation we’re playing and have done for two seasons now apart from the 3 at the back experiment at the start of the season. Have we got the players for that? No way - we don’t have two players suited to the “2” role so we try Caletti and Mckay there and wonder why things aren’t working out.
The “3” requires a good 10 (Holman or FBK or Maccarone can do it) with two pacy wingers outside. We’ve got one - Eric.
Aloisi got his recruitment wrong, wrong, wrong .. not necessarily because of who he signed (although there’s clearly a couple of duds in there) but because of the structure he is asking them to play. Awful coaching.

+x+x+xCaletti and Kristensen work well together, just ditch Mckay. In what formation though? Kristensen as DM and Caletti AM. My point exactly. Calletti 'fits' only if we are playing a midfield diamond with multiple strikers. Unfortunately he has not shown any scoring capability in his 30+ games, and if you have an AM that doesn't score you need more than one striker who does.

Just for curiosity I went back at looked at the lineups for every game he played this season and in every start he had he was paired with shitty old McKay in what looked like two defensive midfielders. I went back to last season as well just to see where he was played and most times he was paired with McKay again in the defensive midfield role. I don't remember him ever being in the attacking midfield role so I don't think we know what he is capable of in that area or in the goal scoring capacity really unless I am missing some games he played in the ACL.

+xCould have sworn he scored a couple goals, maybe I was thinking about Devente Clut  Yeah, Clut scored a couple of crackers. Seemed to be able to spark things when he came on as a fresh sub, but couldn't do it as a starter. Shone brightly but has faded away badly.

I like Calletti but at that height you have to be at Maradona levels to survive professionally and even then he wasn't a DM.
