Brisbane Roar has opened their pre-season campaign in style, sweeping past Brisbane Premier League club Brisbane Olympic 5-0 at Goodwin Park tonight.

Head Coach Rado Vidosic and his coaching staff opted for a different team in each half as part of their conditioning program with both Roar sides arguably as strong as the other.

South Korean winger Do Dong-Hyun was a clear crowd pleaser on debut, setting up George Lambadaridis for a header within the first half an hour of play.

But it was last season's Golden Boot winner Besart Berisha who stole the show in front of the lively crowd, netting a hat-trick with three equally clinical finishes in the second half.

An own goal to an Olympic defender rounded out the score as the Roar players impressed after just two weeks of pre-season training under their belts.

"I'm very happy," Vidosic said, post-match.

"We used it as a conditioning session more than anything but it was great to be out in Brisbane promoting our brand of football and introducing our new players.

"The crowd tonight was just fantastic."

Just got back from the Olympic game, fck me I love haloumi, on a football note, Dong and Halloran are looking very lethal on the wings, Dong set up the first goal with a pin point cross. He's going to be great out there on the left. Overall, very pleased with the first game of pre-season. Berisha has this freak ability to just dribble through defenders so he can shoot from 6 yards lol.

Overall an awesome night, even if it was bloody freezing.

A decent header from George, he had a pretty good half. Geria did really well at CB too, with him Jurman and Donachie all having really great games, maybe we have enough depth there after all? Halloran, Henrique, Dong, Brattan were stand outs also and Berisha was as awesome as ever.

A bit worrying about Stef pulling up so early, anybody know who replaced him and switched with Hingert to the right? Also Nichols and Rocky were there but didn't play at all, may be injured?

Anyone know how Proia went?

He played the first half, but didn't do anything of note and never tested the keeper, but did have a tap in ruled out for offside after some good work by Kofi, although even then he shouldn't have been offside. You can see Berisha's style of bulldogging the defense rubbing off on him which is good to see and he worked very hard, so he will no doubt get better as preseason rolls on.

So would you say he is ready if Berisha was to succumb to an injury.

Ross Archibald, Roar Wikipedia says he's a midfielder in our NYL team. He did well going forward and linking up with Kofi and Broich, but was found a few times in defense, although I'd say the same for Corey Brown in the second half and that's his position.

Versatility key for Hingert
Brisbane Roar’s Jack Hingert is hoping his versatility on the football pitch is the key to unlocking more game time in the upcoming Hyundai A-League campaign.

The day after his club’s strong showing against Brisbane Olympic – a game that ended 5-0 in favour of the visitors - in their first pre-season outing of the year, the English-born defender said he was pleased with his 45 minute stint.

It also marked a return from injury for Hingert, who missed the 2012 Grand Final after hurting his ankle in the first leg of the Hyundai A-League major semi-final against Central Coast Mariners in April.

“It was the first hit-out for the pre-season so as a group, we were all buzzing to get a run,” he said.

“For me, I was especially keen as it was my first bit of game time since recovering from my ankle injury.

“I was really happy with it and I thought we kept the ball well and created quite a few opportunities.”

Since arriving at the club in July 2011, Hingert has seen his appearances in orange limited to cameos with the combination of injuries and a regular Roar starting eleven proving unlucky for the 21-year-old.

However, he showed no signs of discomfort in a solid performance against Olympic, playing in both the right-back and left-back positions after Shane Stefanutto sustained a minor injury.

With his performance in mind, the former North Queensland Fury youngster is eager to further prove his worth – and is confident he can do it from a number of different positions.

“Full-back is my main position but I can play a number of positions and obviously in this team, we all like playing a little bit further forward to get a chance in front of goal!” he said.

“I think my best position is as a full-back, either side although I do like playing on the left.

“It’s a good thing for me if the coach knows I can play in a number of positions and that I’m versatile and can adapt to different game plans.

“I always want to be improving each season, skills-wise as a player and also in the game time that I get.

“Hopefully I can stay injury free this year so I have no excuses and I definitely want to play as much as I can, I want to play every week so that’s my goal for the season.”
