+xMatch confirmed for 19.09.18 Do we reckon it's a game of 11 v 11? The person who posted school-yard pick-em isn't a bad shout. The NFL make-up serves both the 'black' theme but also... Game of flag NFL?

Game of flag NFL? Assuming 11 v 11, with one side wearing the new home kit and one side wearing the new away kit. I'm not sure if they consider the new kit a major announcement, or whether they are announcing our last signing on the night?

So we’ve got a match v Pen Power this Saturday, then this training session. The HAL sight is saying:
“Roar have teased fans by revealing the highlight of the night will be a "MAJOR club announcement". .... now kit launch makes sense, but MAJOR??

A lot of people have been talking about going back to black for the away kit, so maybe that's where they get the major from?

Black hasn’t traditionally been our away kit though (white was like most clubs). So going back to Black (which is what all the teasers suggest) presumably means back to black shorts and trim .... But either way, there’s nothing about a kit launch that I’d describe as “major” or, as the HAL site wrote it, “MAJOR”

@ miron Mercedes
Totally agree.
“MAJOR” would be announcing Flamini or someone of similar stature
“major” would be another signing, still good but of lesser pedigree.
Announcing black shorts as MAJOR would be, kinda, well you know ... over stating things 😂

I’m going to make some bold statements:
Bautheac will be one of the players of the coming season,
Mikkelsen one of the best new signings,
Mauk one of the best Australians
Taggart one of the best Strikers.
and we already have the best goalkeeper
.... so what more does JA need?
.... Nothing imo. No excuses!

Don't think we will be seeing much slow, methodical build up this season. Quick transitions and counter attacking football. We are probably still lacking a little bit of creativity in the back of midfield, but hopefully that will be fixed up soon.

So unless we get a creative mid I fear a lot of balls over the top .

But either way, there’s nothing about a kit launch that I’d describe as “major” or, as the HAL site wrote it, “MAJOR” discounting the first 6 years where we were locked into the rebok kits and didnt really have much say in kit design black has featured reasonably significantly in our changed strip. (as well as our home kit) since the 11/12 season 5/7 home shorts have been black (1 orange, 1 white), 2/7 away kits have been predominately black, 1 white with black shorts, 1 all white, 2 white and orange shorts, 1 blue. our 3rd strip has been 2/4 maroon, 1 grey/black, 1 black. I think we will get an orange and black home kit, an all black away, and a maroon 3rd kit. at least that's what im hoping for.

So unless we get a creative mid I fear a lot of balls over the top . As I said, I think we are lacking some creativity in midfield, so I think we agree there. I have faith that Mauk can pick a pass with the right players around him (and contribute some goals, as he scored 5 last season). He has had a whole lot of time in pre-season to get used to playing with Eric, Mikkelson and Taggart. TK can pick a pass and if he can stay fit this season, will certainly contribute creatively and may score a couple himself. I would hope that JA would be on the lookout for a deep lying playmaker for that last spot. I think if we are looking at weaknesses, I think our backline is more of an issue at the moment. Obviously there is potentially for it to be very solid, however O'Toole hasn't come into a season as a starter before and is an unknown quantity at that level, our preferred starting CBs are both coming back from injury and haven't been that involved in pre-season yet and their back ups are a converted DM who is a squaddie at best and a CB who has proven to be adequate, but absolutely not a standout. To be honest, I have no problem with balls over the top from the back of midfield if they are finding the right player and ending in goals. Being able to play a long ball to pick out a winger as part of a fast transition is absolutely something we should be able to do.

I’ve no idea. Supporters groups have been involved in these arrangements for a couple of weeks and “major” has never been mentioned before.
It’s either FFA marketing getting ahead of themselves or there’s something going on beyond the kit launch. Coin toss on which one it is lol.

One thing that i haven't though about yet, its interesting that it is a Hingert Vs Bautheac 11. Hingert has taken the arm band in preseason when Mckay has not started. Maybe also an announcement as to the captaincy as well? perhaps Mckay moving into a club captain role with Jack and eric taking over on field captain roles?
Though perhaps it is just for marketing purposes as jack and eric are the most active on social media

Surely Devere would be ahead of Hingert in the captaincy queue? Hingert has never struck me as a great on-field talker/organiser.

DeVere is not guaranteed a starting spot though - there is a chance Bowles/Pepper could nab it.

+xDeVere is not gustos starting spot though - there is a chance Bowles/Pepper could nab it. Just makes you reflect on such an un-fulfilled career. Now, not even guaranteed a start over two journeymen playing our of position. Nothing against Bowles or Pepper (they did a great job last year), but can't imagine any club signing either as a first choice CB.

@ clockwork
Agree on Pepper/Bowles ... but look at any A League team and there’s a couple like it. That’s the effect of the cap.
DeVere May surprise us and have an outstanding season. He’s off contract next winter making it easier for Victory to sign him 😉
