Yep. And McKay didn’t look too disappointed during his interview... it was pretty much oh well we had a couple of chances.

I've been saying that about McKay for a long time while watching games, it pisses me off. Laughing after he complete stuffs up a chance, you should be angry, not laughing. Can't wait for a clean out, its clear some are just happy to be getting a paycheck.

Yeah, Davies by now should have a better plan that this. He should know who he can rely on and who he can’t.
New coach ASAP if we can. Ideally with an assistant who can diet defence out.
Dont offer anyone a contract that hasn’t come through our youth system.
Get rid of all the visa players: TK, Eric, Mikkkesen and Lopez

I'd keep Pepper O'Connor Tongjik Lopez DWH Mackay Eric Isaac caletti Young
I'd lose Bowles Ingham daggs nigro Holman
Unsure on Himgert Mikks Henrique Mauk Devere White
Who have I forgotten ....So that's at a minimum 5/6 first 11 players.....one or two centre backs , a def mid, winger, a 9, a 10, a 6 and maybe right back.
Wow that's a challenge for s coach and that's why we need s European connected coach,

Agree with much of that. McKay has to go though. I’m not sure I’d keep Lopez. After the past couple of weeks I’d keep Mikkelson over our other visa players - at least he has shown he has a bit of class and can score goals. Assume you mean O’toole? It’s a sign of how poor our defensive stocks are when Pepper is a ‘keeper’. Twice tonight he was no where while Keogh and Castro were left unmarked to score.

Easier to start with what we need surely:
2 Center backs. 1 Left Back. 1 Defensive Midfielder 1 Striker 1 left Winger 1 right winger
That’s 7 big signings. 5 visa and 2 marquees.
Easy lol.

+xI think Mauk is better as a central mid rather than CAM too Is Caletti still on contract for another season at the Roar? I'd definitely be trying to keep him with arguably McKay and TK (definitely) leaving at the end of this season and maybe even Lopez going too? Bit disappointed with how little Joe's played this season. I know he was injured last season but thought he was excellent during the 16/17 season.

I can’t remember the long list of off contract players but I think Caletti is off contract this winter. He was effectively frozen out by Aloisi (as usual for some reason not obvious to the football watching public?) and I would have said he’d go in the winter a couple of months back.
But maybe a new coach can motivate him to stay and push his development along. He’s kind of hot n cold lately which would suggest he’s not ready to move on yet, another player who could drop to the NPL when really they should be starting in the HAL

I’d rather see Calletti playing more advanced in a CM role. I recall during his first few games he had a good eye for the defence splitting pass. At DM he’s serviceable, but doesn’t really break up opposition attacks and will never dominate.

At DM he’s serviceable, but doesn’t really break up opposition attacks and will never dominate. He finds space well too, and unlike most players in the league, is able to control the ball first time and turn to face goal. I understand the concept of having a good passer at DM, but when they've not got players they can reliably pass to, it's pointless. Having Calletti further forward so he can play passes to the strikers/wingers is where his skillset can be used to the greatest effect, and goes some way to negating the weakness of his defensive game.

Surely with hingert out for likely the majority of the next season and O'Toole likely to be back for the start of the season we need a RB more than a lb (particularly since Powell has shown he can play lb if needed).
The only way I would keep pepper is if he was a back up occasional bench player.
My preferred formation is a 4123 with a strong defensive mid in the likes of brattan or parrtalu we don't have anyone like that in the squad so that needs to be a signing. I would be happy for calettie and mauk to play in the cam roles. I really line dwh but he is not ready to lead a line on his own yet so he would be our bench striker. I had high hopes for daggers but he has been terrible this season.
Eric won't stay (I'd keep him if he was keen) so I would say we need to bring in RB, CB, CB, DM, RW, lw, St. All of which need to be out and out starters. Then I would keep as bench fillers pepper, dwh, tongyk, Powell, reardon, tobi, Ricky, white, hingert (when he comes back)
Looking at that we would need to bring in a bench lw and rw and a bench cam so I put that at 6 starting quality players, 3 bench impact players we need to bring in (that's a huge amount) and that leaves 3 fillers I might use 1 of those fillers on McKay, not expecting him to play any games but good to have around the squad.

We can all agree/disagree on which positions are required and I’m guessing the only unanimous choice would be Young stays as keeper. All the rest there’ll be a variety of opinions one way or another, no opinion is right or wrong just a different take on things.
The new coach will have (almost) a clean slate with five visa slots and 2 marquee slots meaning 7 of next seasons starting XI could be new. That’s about the best news we have .... but the new coach will have to be able to attract top talent so he’s not likely to be a Davies, Moon, Okon, Rudan or a Miller. He’s got to be foreign and all the risks that come with that.
Outside of these 7 new players we have Young and Mauk, both of whom are starters, Hingert should be back well before Christmas and DWS has done enough to suggest he will be dangerous either off the bench or as a second striker.
Add 5 youth players to the mix (O’Toole, Powell, Reardon, Leck, Barnett?) And you have 16 players with the balance being made up of squad fillers.
There’s no point in ditching current squad fillers and replacing them unless it’s an upgrade. Pepper is the best example although you might replace him with Tongyik
It is the senior players, the ones supposedly who are “the best”, that have let us down this season, not the squad fillers, and that’s where salvation comes for next season.

Last night's game showed that Daggers has not got a first touch worth anything. Time and again his first touch was a metre or more heavy and it made him both ineffective in attack and woeful as a ball holder or playmaker of any kind. He ran hard, put himself in good positions, then lost the ball or lost the momentum when it came to him. If he can't develop a decent level of touch he can't be playing this level. And what was Pepper doing chasing players over halfway FFS? As well as helping Perth score goals, he has proven that he does not have a CBs brain so get him out of there. A CB has to have the best judgement of any outfield player. He does not have that so he is NOT a CB. He is a hard working enthusiastic player - put him upfront with DWH and he can play mongrel attack like Smeltz used to.

Seeing Pepper is just a makeshift CB, would you be happy for him to get back into the midfield? Seems like he has the engine/mobility the Roar midfield has been missing all season. Joe and Matty seem struggle to play well together so maybe Pepper could link up well with one or the either?

Yeah, we’re looking at major surgery not a quick nip n tuck this winter. It’s not the fault of one or two players but of 7 or 8 players.

I really think its best to wait for a new coach before axing players. Lets face it they were all rubbish last night. We know they can play better. But with an interim coach who is clearly floundering and stuck with a motley crew of misfits this is bound to happen. Last week it was backs to the wall and throw out the coaching book and keep it simple with players playing out of position. So remarkably they keep it simple and play their best football. Last night ,we had new players, players again out of position ,a failed midfield,of the past reunited,a striker playing AM,a lot of players without a clue other than to send in crosses, long ball passes to a short striker, continual missed placedpasses to DWH,players losing the ball .The list of deficiencies goes on.
Taggart and DWH were just looking like they could make serious attacking raids together without a recognised AM threading passes. Now thats gone and we are back to square one. Last week McKay was yelling at players in defence .This week silence again.

@crimson
Agreed, I think most are in that camp. We have enough squad movement competition ng up to fix it, it just needs to be s good coach with recruiting network.
Last night had 6 under the age 22 - that’s what we all said we wanted although there’s two there I’d gladly see the back of (Ingham and Daggers)
What was frustrating was the TYPE of football we played - who thought it would be a good idea to lift high balls in to the box?

I've been saying McKay should have been gone for 2 seasons. He stinks and attitude starts at the top (skipper). Our aggression and whinging this season matches his. From our current "first team squad" I would honestly keep DWH, Caletti on the cheap, OToole. The rest can go. We suck and there's no "Maybe in a different situation...." stuff. Most of these players have proven they're no good for 2-3 years.

Okay, just for some Sunday afternoon fun. What interview questions would you be asking?
(if we come up with any good ones I’ll post them on the RSF FB page and have them e-mailed to Pourre lol)
My starters:
Q: So, we need to find two Center backs, a new defensive midfielder, a new left back, a new striker, a new right wing and a new left winger. We need 5 new visa players and 2 marquees .... please explain how you’ll go about that little lot?”
Q: What will you do to ensure BRFC take the FFA Cup seriously for a change?

Waz - Why wouldn't we be asking "What positions do you think we need to fill" before telling them "these are the ones we need - how are you going to fill them"? Do we want our candidates to have done homework and developed some sort of plan, or are we hoping they know nothing and think they are coming to a solid team? "What do you think of VAR?" "What do you think of FFA?" "Do you hate Victorians?"

But more seriously, I would do what a lot of places do when looking at hiring a consultant... Take the shortlisted ones and ask them to present their solutions to our player roster and team mentality. Even if we don't choose them, we have tapped some of their knowledge.

@Roar in me ...
Roar are being pretty tight lipped over the process but I think that’s how it ends.
Candidates CVs including coaching and playing records are a matter of public record and there’s no need to dwell on that (I can only imagine how much time JAs interview took on “that penalty” lol), the consultants they’ve hired are doing background and reference checking (question #1 “is he a twat”?) and the finale is the shortlist present their solution back to the panel. Sounds reasonably similar to your thinking aye ..

Just saw Mauk posting on twitter that he has had surgery. Certainly won't be seeing him for the rest of the season. Hopefully his rehab goes quickly. Very quiet from the club. Hopefully that means some good news is coming soon (but I doubt it).
