I think comparisons between Roar and Nix are really valid right now.

Both went with unproven coaches.

Nix went with a proven assistant from SFC while Roar went with unproven Fowler from LFC’s Academy (It has to be said, Rangers went with Gerard who was on the same course as Fowler and had similar experience, so it can work)

roar signed 16 new players, Nix 15

The value of Roars signings was €3.23m and Nix €5.13m (The difference is pretty much accounted for with Roar signing 4 players from their Academy).

Nix signed 7 players from low leagues including League One, Serie C, Indian Premier League, and NZ Premiership.

Roar signed 6 players from low leagues including league One and Two in England.

So what’s the difference?

Nix signed more players from lower leagues than Roar did, and yet they’re flying - so it’s not the level the players were signed from!

So what is it??

Nix definitely doing better than I thought. I had them tipped as 7th before the season.

I still find the Phoenix has a far better collection of Visa players than Brisbane.

- Steinmann, was starting in the Bundesliga in only April/ May of last year. Came from the Danish Super League (where Kristensen came from)

- Davilla (mostly a Segunda Division player and he did well in the Mexican league only a year ago which is a higher level than League one IMO). India last year.

- Ball (mainly a career Leage One Player)

- Taylor, shit loads of EPL experience came to the HAL after playing 44 games in one season in League One the season prior.

- Hooper, EnglishChampionship and SPL(Celtic) bulk experience

I thought he looked good although I’m probably biased having watched him in the youth a lot. He was too isolated though, which shows Holloway as a bit of a flake unable to create anything for himself or his striking partner. Can’t see Moratovic hanging on to his place but I think he’s overtaken DWH in the Peking order

I too thought he looked good and liked his technique and he didn't look out of place or spoil attacking moves. Rarely saw him cough up posession. I am glad he got the full 90. Hopefully more to come. Brisbane always has a few good youngsters that complimented and improved the team. Kruse, Oar, Vidosic, Minniecon, Borello, Petratos, Fitzgerald (with Ange), maclaren and so on.

Well Ufuk Talay having considerable experience, compared to Robbie, in playing and coaching in Australia with Australian/Kiwi talent has a better idea of players who succeed in the league and can't. Robbie really doesn't have someone who can effectively give him the lay of the land, I thought Davies was going to be that person but apparently not, after eg. Scott Neville, Jake McGing and Max Crocombe have had far too much time as starters - surely he can see why they've been rejected by other HAL clubs.

This is a very valid point. Also why locals in a Salary Cap comp normally have good knowledge. Not easy to come from overseas and survive as a manager in this comp for 2+ seasons.

You're not biased. Mirza is quality and anyone with a half a brain could see the intelligent moves and runs he was making in this game. He's ex AIS and 3 years now at the Roar. Putting it simply.....He just didn't get the service he normally gets from his Yleague colleagues.

When the Royal Brigade of British Duds just keep on starting matches despite being failures, one can understand why young George is leaving.

Good luck to him.

Racism has nothing to do with skin colour, it’s literally about race.

However, I wasn’t been entirely serious but if you can’t bring yourself to critique the Aussie players who dominate Roars five man midfield then there’s no comparison

You were you SJW, you.

I agree. They've all been poor. Very disappointed with Stefan Mauk. I had hoped he would kick on after Adelaide and really start to become a real choice for the Socceroos but nope.

O'Neill's shown some glimpses but none of his performances warrant a starting 11 spot.

Inman...well I can see why the highest level he's ever played is League One.

But it all comes back to Mr Robbie Fowler. If he's not dropping anybody for poor performances (like he's only done with Crocombe and ROD - like that's a tough decision to make with ROD) then there's no real reason to stick around, is there?

Robbie's like the reverse Midas. Everything he touches turns to shit. Dropping his duds is an admission of failure which he won't admit to. He's already lost face with Crocombe, don't think he wants to lose what's left.

Well next week we may get to see Mells and Mauk together in the midfield as O’Neill will be away with U23s for possibly next 4 games , unless Robbie thinks he don’t have to release him like last time :)

err, how about you educate yourself on what FIFA considers racism seeing as we are talking about FOOTBALL here: :

”Racism is the abuse of players, officials or fans based on the colour of their skin, nationality, or ethnicity”

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism_in_association_football

Any FIFA/AFC/FFA course on racism makes it very clear - discrimination towards a player based upon their nationality is considered racism.

So while my original comment wasn’t meant to be taken too seriously (it was rather to point out 4/5 midfielders are Australian at Roar negating the original comment) it has at least served to educate on what racism is considered in football.

So the next time someone shouts f**** off you British B***** they can expect to be kicked out for racism.

Was Simon Hill a racist when he said 'Si Señor!!!' when Isiais scored that free kick in the 2016 GF?

No Australian player was going to get him to say that.

Roar leak like a sieve through the coaching network, always have - there’s over 40 of them. Often when someone makes a definitive statement like this that’s where it’s come from but, still best to wait and see.

Mauk, O’Neill, Holloway and ROD are all at risk and I don’t think Inman will be far behind so yes, it would be surprising if several players don’t leave early.

Pretty average but it depends who you talk too tbh .... but I don’t think anyone is raving about him. Him and Mauk just don’t seem to work well together and the best game O’Neill has had was probably yesterday in Newcastle (and it wasn’t that great) while Mauk sat on the bench.

I’d love to know what Burnley are thinking.

He didnt last long at Burnley. Played one game against Chelsea and then loaned out so take what you will from that. BR performances..... ordinary and thats being generous.

O’Neill away
Akbari injured
Courtney Perkins injured
Trewin injured
Aldred injured
Otoole away
that’s 6 out of 23 out, then you could also put McGing and Ingram on the list so make that 8 out of 23 all of a sudden squad looks pretty light on.

He will get a call up next week I recon,
O’Neill away
Akbari injured
Courtney Perkins injured
Trewin injured
Aldred injured
Otoole away
that’s 6 out of 23 out, then you could also put McGing and Ingram on the list so make that 8 out of 23 all of a sudden squad looks pretty light on.

Btw how olds his brother?
