+xWell, Well .... How good was that 👏👏 Yep, great display, especially first half. Showed what they could do when playing with a more attacking approach. Good passing, good pressing, willingness to take shots.

Yep, better balance there. Although you could see that the more attacking approach did make the defence look more vulnerable at times. I still think the back three, particularly Aldred and Gillesphey, lack a bit of mobility, which gets exposed when they don’t have a compact two or three midfielders forming a block ahead of them.

But 6 games to go and probably only 6 points needed for finals.

It’s better defensively with two sixes/Pepper but worse offensively - that’s what RF needs to fix first

+x+xRoar announce Peppers departure Where to? Wow that was a bit out of the blue. I prefer him out of the team. Although we are exposed in the counter I feel Brisbane plays whole lot better without him. I think it's closer to how Robbie wants to play with the quick passing that pepper cannot do.

Would have preferred Bowles to go, but if he's found somewhere overseas to make some coin, good on him.

The Wanderers goal came because after a turnover, the 4 or 5 players forward of the ball all stood still watching what was going to happen rather than some of them rushing back. It was lazy and we paid for it.

I don't care that teams have one or two games in hand - tonight we are 1 point off equal third place. Go Roar.

I wonder what negatives PaulC can find in that game. Conspicuously absent but I'm sure he's studying hard to identify the negatives. Anyhow for the rest of us believers you can see a work in progress. Well done lads, a very enjoyable game and with some good attacking pieces of play.

* only 2 defeats in 11 games
* way closer to third place than 7th
enough said?

+xGreat game and very entertaining and enjoyable to watch. The team keeps getting better. Agreed, I was there and it felt so good watching them play like that. I miss it so much and we deserve it. It's been 6 years since our last trophy and I'm starting to believe we could pinch silverware at the gf. Some of you might think I'm hopeful but tonight's performance has convinced me that we can give it a crack.

Last night would have to be pretty close to the best team we can put on the pitch, and not just the best players shoe horned into a position but the best player in each position (JCP for Brown is probably the only change for mine). I am a bit sad to see Pepper go, he has always put in his best, but realistically he can’t play the way we did last night so he was probably off at the end of the season anyway so good luck to him.
The RF and TG combination as coaches has worked really well over the season, they probably made some incorrect assumptions at the start of the year but they are willing to change (mid game even) to try and get the results they are after. More importantly they are not afraid to bring in the youth players, which is just a breath of fresh air compared to some of our previous managers. Hopefully we see all of the scholarship players get some minutes this year.
Irrespective of what happens from here on for the season I am prepared to give it a pass mark, could be a conceded pass still but a pass nonetheless.

I think Roar are going to pick up 10-12 points in the season close, so we’re not finishing 6th imo

Credit where credit's due - that was a standard of football I never thought possible from this trwm What a contrast to previous performances. Eye catching rotations, impressive ball speed. Some really good stuff. Best football I've seen from a Roar side in years, literally.
So the question I ask now is where the hell this has been until now? Was this just a flash in the pan?

The problem has been the analysis imo.
People had a predetermined position (Fowler can’t coach, his signings are shit etc) and so watching games became a matter of confirming that preposition (which has a name, “confirmation bias’).
Roar haven’t been able to execute this way this season. The difference last night was dropping one of the 6’s and playing a second striker.
There was also a difference in intent to be fair, they shot a lot last night.
But if you looked at previous games you can see the flat passes inside, the triangular passing, but it wasn’t working .... but they were trying.
People say “they park the bus” and yet stats shows they have the most entries into the final third of any team, Thats incompatible with parking anything. And it’s equal across both halves pretty much.
Roar are a fascinating case study this season. But it helps if people look with both eyes open.
Roars flaws aren’t still there mind (6, 9, wide Mids etc) but who hasn’t got confidence Fowler and Grant won’t fix those?? I do.

Its been done in parts, but this is finally the whole shebang. Really impressed with how it all clicked. The best performance from O'Neill all year. Sadly, he'll probably go back to Burnley next year. Really got the best out of the midfield last night. Great to see Muratovic on from the get go. He still seems a bit hesitant, but the minutes he's getting now will be rewarded next year. Good pressing by Inman, great run for the penalty.

Was certainly a pleasure to watch...first time in a long time I have gone home and watched the whole game again. My one small codicil is that we had a 12th man last night ...our humidity . It played a magnificent part. We played very good football but Western Sydney were like statues . I think they simply could not handle the hot sticky conditions. We played the perfectly for those conditions. When you are struggling to breathe and a team is pressing you relentlessly (as we did) it is impossible to play against .
The good part is we have another 4 home games out of 6. Still I take nothing away from our boys . They pressed all game and won the ball back every time they did occasionally lose it . Our passing was very good and "pretty to watch" at times .
So many good players last night but I think Scott Mac Donald was superb ...even disregarding his goals . He is so measured on the ball and can receive it even under very close attention and come away with it and create something . I have always rated him very highly . He whinges to and harangues his team mates all game too. I know as a player that can be annoying but it adds an edge and kills complacency . An inspired acquisition !
The thing that stood out most for me was the speed of our passing . Wanderers were chasing shadows all game because when a Roar player received a pass it was always moved on at either first or second touch. That is so hard to play against as you can never get a tackle in . It is gone before you get a chance.
I hope Robbie and Tony stay for next season . They need to stay and complete the job . With a few new additions and having had a season behind them they will be far better placed to choose players to suit the basic team style and suit the league . Not that I have any complaints about the imports this season...all good solid players once they settled in. We now just need a couple of players with that X factor to add that unpredictability to our attack. To be honest , RF and TG would be crazy to leave having got the team to where they now have them. If they can go back to Europe with trophies under their belt it will stand them in far better stead .

Brisbane Bore to Roarcelona in 5 days. Still not convinced by Aldred and Gillepshpey, playing with one DM like last night they would have been exposed big time against the top 4.

For me one very noticeable thing Roar achieved last night was converting those entries into the final third into entries into the penalty area and/or setting up shots on goal. In previous games, even in those second halves where we dominated, we didn’t penetrate close to goal enough, last night we did. I don’t think it was just having an extra player up front (last night we played with one high striker Muratovic and McD and Inman behind), but also the attacking mindset of the whole team, which I think translated into much better ball handling speed (all players always looking to create attacks by finding players in space early, and players always looking to find space off the ball) and better pressing.
