Henrique will have citizenship for next season. Broich signed for us almost 4 years ago to the day. Surely he could apply for his citizenship soon. Solorzano, if he's signed for another two years as rumoured, will take up a visa spot. Miller will take up a visa spot. So that's 2, maybe 3 visa spots. I don't think they'll be looking at an Asian player judging from the past but you never know. I do think we'll sign someone from Europe though.

I do wonder now if resigning Solorzano was a good idea. He will undoubtably be back up striker and with the foreigners being reduced, maybe it would have been better to let him go.
Having been named NYL player of the year, I'd like to see Borrello step up into the second striker role, plus we've got Theodore there to.
I'm happy either way I guess and the younger guys should get some game time with ACL and FFA cup.

Either he is promoted to first choice (bad move when his scoring record is so poor) or he is a back-up (why waste a visa spot on a backup when theres good youth coming through and the visa quota is dropping?) That's my thinking, and I'm confident in saying he hasn't been signed as number 1.

Do we have much in the salary cap to sign a better striker though?

Then resign him to a 2 yr $200k contract under the cap with a 2 year coaching contract when he retires. And the coaching contract can make up for the reduced contract now, so maybe $600k a year for 2 years. This would allow us to sign a top quality foreign striker.

If true, this would be really good news. Edited by BRFC_92: 7/5/2014 12:28:05 PM

Whether or not the FFA allow it is another thing, but really why would they block it if it meant another top quality player joining the league.

Solórzano signing makes no sense to me. He is a backup at best and definitely not the replacement for Bes. I suppose Mulvey feels we will only sign one foreigner in the off season, that most likely being Bes replacement, so we have that spot for Solo.
We really need to recruit properly this off season. We at the point where we will stick with what we have, then Theo, Steff, Broich etc will retire and we wont have the replacements.
If Henrique and Broich get their citizenship, it also opens up two foreign spots on the roster.

Solorzano's contract is for two years and he is on near to minimal wage. A good piece of business if you ask me. He came in this season incredibly out of fitness. With a good pre season under his belt he will be back to his old ways.
Assuming Henrique has already applied for citizenship, we still have 2 visa spots to fill. It also looks like Daniel Bowles has been signed and therefore Diogo probably won't be resigned. Action is still negotiating a new contract, but it sounds like we will end up resigning him but the club is dragging it out to ensure he is ok absolute minimum wage.

Magic Mike has had a long time to assess Solorzano. So I have faith that he knows that given a full preseason, with lots of goals he will fit in perfectly as he has before. After all how many full games has he played?Plus with ACL we need two quality strikers.

I hope we resign Acton. The games that he started I thought he was outstanding and solid as a rock. He also made arguably the save of the season from close range (can't remember who against) he is a very solid back up keeper.
And should get a couple of starts next season in cup games.

Broich may well be considered Australian by the time our ACL campaign starts. He's been here nearly 4 years now and it shouldn't take a whole year to get the paperwork through.

love for us to grab a couple more young guys to throw in for FFA Cup and ACL. Gligor comes to mind (really surprised we didnt grab James Brown). If the Jets are actually stupid enough to let Chapman go I'd love for us to throw our hats in the ring for him too... Smithy/North the wrong side of 30 - Donks-Chapman would be insane as a set of backups/ACL tandem. Do we have a decent CB prospect in NYL team?
Havent really paid attention to NYL, but sounds like we have decent stock in the front thirds (Borello, Ingham, Theodore, Clut) but havent heard much about the backs/central mids? Definitely makes the JCS signing even weirder.
We might need another RB as well... if we lose Franjic after WC, will be Jack and no backup.
On that note, Corey Brown to take up full-time starting LB role next year with Steff to play sparingly/ACL+FFAC?

Just FYI folks -
Miller won't be a foreign spot next season. Thank Sagey's connections at the DOI. Broich and Henrique are both counted as Aussies next season too. Solorzano has a wife who's from Brisbane, so he was sticking around in any case. He's on minimum. So we have 2+1 available... Good news all around :)

He is quite versatile and quick.I remember him at GCU playing right wing and scoring some good goals.Importantly he will fit in easily with the roar style of play.Just what this means for other players is unclear. On the right we now have more than enough players ,with Hingert,Donachie,Franjic(if he stays ) ,Miller,Dimi ,Henrique ,Danning and Bowles. So we have a large group of quite versatile players ,which enables squad rotation, during ACL games.Either someone is leaving or a few players will need to be shifted around. We already have depth on the left, with Steff, Brown,Diogo,McKay,Broiche.

Broich will definitely pick up that citizenship though, you'd assume anyway since he has been talking about sticking around and coaching after his contract is up. Can already see other clubs hating if its true though, and is a MASSIVE ACL advantage. Might mean the Hanke+Husygems rumours have some weight to them too. TBH wouldnt be opposed to us grabbing a striker and a fullback/midfielder (#6 if Bratts goes abroad). Definitely someone who can at least force a save on Free Kicks would be nice too. forgot about Bowles too.

This year Broich went from living in a rented apartment at south bank to buying a house, with the mumblings he's made this year about coaching and player development I wouldn't be surprised if he's keen to stay on with the club post playing career so i think naturalisation isn't that far out of the question for him. Jai Ingham appears to be absolutely destroying this year, i get alerts from the club on twitter and pretty much every tweet involving the NYL or NP is Ingham scoring or creating goals, the youth is looking strong. Lamba is back next season hopefully which will make a huge difference in the back end of games if he's used as a sub player. I would like to see us sign a strong Asian player for the ACL too. Anyone willing to make a bold prediction/wishlist for a striker? Edited by Borstal_breakout: 8/5/2014 02:37:34 PM

I was thinking how easy it would be to beat the salary cap using the marquee system.A marquee for example could be on a $1.25 mill two year contract which tapers from 1 mill first year to $250 final year.In the final year the marquee moves into the salary cap .A second player who is also on marquee wages, could come in on $250k first year under the cap and 1 mill second year and become the marquee.Voila two marquees. When you hear talk of marquees playing for peanuts after their contract expires. It makes you wonder. But personally I have no problem with it if it means more top quality players. But consider what is possible if there are two marquees allowed. Heart City could effectively get four top quality players. This probably should be a separate thread.

That's why I mentioned above about reducing his playing contract now, move him under the cap and make up for the lost income with a massive coaching contract in 2/3 years.

Broich and Ricky both have had their citizenship papers submitted and will probably be in the same ceremony. Ricky would have probably had done his, but we had an away game on during the last ceremony, so him or the club opted to delay to the next one.

So we have Acton and probably Ferreira out, Bowles and Young in.
I think we will see more movement though. I would put money on Franjic and Brattan leaving to further their careers in Europe next season. They will be on decent money which will be freed in the cap. We will sign replacements for them and also sign a new striker (I've heard Hanke from Freiburg is the favourite).
