Also I think the loss of Theo is underestimated. A good goal keeper like Theo marshal's the backline, tells them where they need to be, etc etc. Without Theo there, Smith is having to pick up the slack in this area, and I think as a result his concentration is suffering.

Roar_Brisbane wrote:Sometimes I don't think people understand how salary caps and player wages work.
It's not as simple as two players leaving and than we have a wad of cash to throw at whoever we want.
Brattan and Petratos both signing contract extensions (no doubt on bigger dollars)
Instead of Paying Lustica and Solorzano for a couple of months we now have to pay them for a whole season now.
Meaning we probably only had enough cash to sign on Sarota & Kurtishi + plus squaddies
With Miller gone hopefully we will make a new signing but given it was a mutual release part of his salary was probably paid out as well.
If we were smart by next season, we should try and move on one of Smith or North (promote Don to starting CB look to bring in a 3rd choice CB on the cheap), add that to Miller, Sarota, Kurtishi and Stef's wages we should have some space to make some big changes to the squad. Little can happen this season. Issues like this requires a strategy. We don't know what the reconciliation of wage figures really look like but suffice to say however that the gain in funds from wages from the loss Berisha, Miller and Franjic will provide us a net gain. Kurtishi won't have a contract next season and we can probably reduce the squad by a player if push comes to shove. And hasn't the cap increased this season? If we can somehow squeeze Broich under the cap, as we did before, that will leave an opening for a new marquee (providing the Bakries are willing to dig deep). Edited by paulc: 12/11/2014 05:39:18 PM

Yea I haven't seen any news about the cap increasing. Imo instead of pushing Broich under the cap lets get him his citizenship move him to Aus marquee and try and get McKay under the cap.

Man my memory not so good, or more likely filled with things unfootball related. But how did we play when bes was out last season? Was broich central or still on the wings?
To me, that is the tactics we should be trying to emulate.

Broich played as a false 9

Henrique and Solozarno look good on the left.Henrique much better for his right foot shots. Borello on the right. What a difference some pace makes too. Bowles played well.Plus some added height is a bonus. Broich central worked a treat.Sucked in the defence and allowed the midfieldes to make the diagonal passes.Much more space down the wings ,created havoc for the Jets. The Roar are a much more serious threat with this game plan. The high pressing defence of the opponents leaves the backline exposed. I just hope Mulvey doesn't put Broich back on the left. It's just too easy to block him out of the game and allow defence to press the midfield.Brioch central drags the defence all over the place and occupies the midfields attention leaving Roar midfielders to take control. Could this be the next leap forward for the Roar?

But Jets couldn't press the Roar ,because the Roar finally sent balls over to the wingers rather than playing out from the back. They were certainly worried about over committing.Roar mixed it nicely and this contributed to the second half dominance and unravelling of the Jets. They didn't know what to do.Sit deep or press. MV will be a totally different proposition. But teams will know now there is serious danger to pressing the Roar if they mix it up ,going short and long and if they keep the pace on the wings and Broich central.

I thought we did well in pressing most of the game. However Kurtishi mostly didn't seem to press. Sure we had well won the game, but why did we change the game plan when he came on.
Previous games he has not pressed and this puts heaps of pressure on our back four. Compare to last year when we all pressed and had a great back four.

As I said previously, Kurtisi won't be at the club after this season. Like Miller (but in a different way) adds little to the team except a spot.

sucks that solo got injured... I would really like to see Solo on the left and henrique on the right with broich playing the false nine... I think that would be pretty promising.

Was just reminded of your club's ACL participation circa March this season - so with the club starting to find some form perhaps and with that, a more settled line up, - indeed Kurtishi's days should be numbered, all the more due to that that heavy schedule back end of this season and even perhaps the need to upgrade/improve the squad in prep for that? :-k Would make sense as ACL participation/A-League finals kind of leads in and the former even carries into our off-season/next pre-season, as we saw with the WSW. So a kind of transitioning of the squad happening then, with a view to next season would seem logical.
I think Mulvey would certainly need to improve the quality/rotation of the side, for a strong effort at the ACL too.

Copied from our own forums. Breaking it down..... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014%E2%80%9315_Primeira_Liga#Personnel_and_sponsors Mixed with the table as it stand already... * Eliminate your strong teams, and almost certainly, teams in the top half of the table. Would be stupid to say 10 rounds into a 34 round season that team has already admitted their coach will go So, looking at maybe bottom half of table. * Dead last Gil Vicente got a new coach in early September. * So that leaves 7 other coaches (maybe) - 9th Morienense (Miguel Leal.... who was only appointed head coach in May) - 10th Martimo (Leonel Pontes.... who was only appointed head coach in May) - 11th Setubal (Domingos Paciencia....... yep, appointed in May) - 12th Estoril (Jose Couciero..... May) - 13th Boavista (Petit.... not Emmanuel Petit btw, this coach just goes by "Petit", BUT... wasn't appointed in May !!!!!! :P ) - 14th Academica (Paulo Sergio....... May) - 15th Nacional (Manuel Machado) - 16th Arouca (Pedro Emanuel) - 17th Penafiel (Rui Quinta.... changed coaches TWICE since May !!!)
