Er...doesn't the fact that Vukovic doesn't have an EU passport and is therefore not eligible to play (or be paid) in the UK hamper this cosy arrangement a tad?

Work Permit shouldn't be that hard to get if the club want him enough. Though Paddy Kenny? Wouldn't he be better than Vukovic?

Work Permits are easy to get in the UK as long as you're not coming from a country with too many problems. I had to get one a few years back and it only took about 3 weeks.

Is this Paddy guy any good? I've never seen him play...

hammers, the difference is you are not a pro footballer ( i prseume!), therefore the English FA's strict rules didn't apply to you!!!

Under FA rules, you either have to be an EU passport holder or have played at least 75% of your country's senior(not Under 23!) internationals over the last 2 years,or show a good reason why you didn't (e.g injury or suspension),
Danny has no chance - if he goes, it will just be to train.

And how can anyone compare Paddy Kenny with him? Kenny has played lots of top level football (including EPL)and has secen caps for Ireland - Danny has never played outside Australia!

this whole must play 75% of games for australia in the last 2 years how does it work when a club is signing a young kid for example -denison from arsenal who when they signed him he was only like 19 so he was no where near playing 75% for brazil,

Theres more criterias than that, obviously not everyone is an international. I think there is also a massive advantage being from a nation ranked inside the top 70 or so on fifas rankings, also how expensive the player is, its easier getting ronaldo to england than a brazilian kid valued at 100k or something. And wouldnt Vukovic have a serbian grandfather of something? What country are EU nationals?

It's actually the UK's Home Office government department which issues the work permit under an agreement with the FA that allows clubs to hire players of international distinction.

Under the terms of the agreement, a work permit will automatically be issued to a player who has played in 75% of his country's competitive internationals.

It will be automatically thrown out if the player doesn't meet that criteria.

However once the case has been dismissed, the club can then simply appeal the decision and it goes before an appeals tribunal.

The club simply then has to persuade the appeals tribunal that despite not playing in 75% of his country's internationals, the player is still of "international distinction" and should be allowed to play in the UK.

And that rarely seems to go wrong these days. You just need a club willing to take a chance.

pimpsta - Denison could have had a Portugeuse (EU) passpor - many Brazilians do.

What Kevin Airs explains is largley correct though I think he is being a bit flippant with this comment that the appeals hardly seem to fail. It's simply that the succesful ones get more media space than the failures.
