It was brought to my attention the twitter debate between Ian Syson (Well known Football Historian) And Micheal Lynch The Age Football writer.

@IanSyson your talking rubbish mate. You clearly didn't read the paper 10 or15 years ago.

@MickLynch_Age I've been researching the papers over the past 130 years and the present period is the worst for local soccer coverage.

Haha yeah been following it. A few days later Lynchy wrote an article on VPL players playing in the A-League.

Well done Ian!

Some how, some way, we (the football community) have to get The Age to appoint 'Joffa' as Chief Soccer Writer. Then we won't miss a beat.

PS

I just have to add that the main reason I come on to this forum is that I know Joffa will post the days local football news, so I don't have to google all day.

Interesting to note, I've recently acquired a paper from the day of my birth in 1987, "The Sun" precursor to the Herald Sun, and flicking to the sport section there is 3 articles on local soccer. Two to do with the Buffalo Cup, and one to do with Westfield buying Channel 10, and how people were hoping Lowy would use his influence to improve Australian soccer coverage.

This tete a tete has seen Lynch come off in a poor light. I think he is really "distant" from the football reality, the football fan.

And "The Age" fares no better. With the attandances and money involved now compared to 10 or 15 years ago (As Lynch likes to make a point of) shouldn't there be 2 or 3 football juournalists at "The Age"?

I think us football fans have to keep on these reports backs and force the issue. Something like the bowls people have done this week when they heard their sport program was being taken off the air. People power works wonders.
