Liverpool and Bolton have been alerted after Middlesbrough hit a stalemate over contract talks with defender Rhys Williams, 23.

The Australian defender has made 59 appearances for Boro since breaking into the first team in 2008.

He said: 'I've tried hard for the last three years to help get Middlesbrough back in the Premier League and hopefully this season will be the one.
'If not, I have to seriously look around and I've spoken to the manager about that.'
