Half the students were praised for talent: “You must be smart at this!”; the other half were praised for effort: “You must have worked really hard!” Dweck was testing whether these simple words, with their subtly different emphases, could make a difference to the student’s mindsets. The results were remarkable. After the first test, students were given a test so tough that none of them succeeded. But there was a dramatic difference between the ways they responded to failure. Those praised for talent interpreted their failures as proof that they were no good at puzzles after all. The group praised for effort persevered on the test far longer, enjoyed it far more and did not suffer any loss in confidence. Then the experiment came full circle, giving the students a chance to do a test of equal difficulty to the very first test. What happened? The group praised for talent showed a 20 per cent decline in performance compared with the first test, even though it was no harder. But the effort-praised group increased their score by 30 per cent. Failure had actually spurred them on. One thing missing, it asks "is it talent or desire to suceed" but forgets to mention also "who you know" a huge part of being picked up As a parent of a natually talented Girl Footballer, I can state with my eyes wide open that she has natural talent, but the desire to acheive at the highest level is lacking by doing no extra skill work or fitness training. Training is just enough to make sure you look like you are trying hard but as for game time its full speed ahead with everything thrown into the game that is only restricted at times by not being fit enough. To me desire is the key point in success,of course you also have to have talent but natural talent by itself is no gaurentee

Pro Group: Forum Members Posts: 2.9K, Visits: 0	nature then nurture and then loads of self motivation because you have a love of the game.Too many players dont have a love of the game and when selected for english academies at 9 they are treated by some of the clubs as if it is a job The football factories (aka academies/cofe) of England turn players off the game hence why very few last the course Europe is funding the war not Chelsea football club
