Abbott has run a pretty flawless campaign to date. Rudd, with all his slickness and spin doctors, is looking tired and desperate already.

Really?
News.com.au wrote:
Tony Abbott says Liberal candidate Fiona Scott has sex appeal
TONY Abbott has said one of his key candidates for western Sydney has a "bit of sex appeal" when asked to list her key traits.

At an event in Penrith, Mr Abbott was asked to compare Fiona Scott to Jackie Kelly who won the seat of Lindsay for the Liberal Party in 1996.

"They are young, they are feisty," Mr Abbott said. "I think I could probably say they both have a bit of sex appeal and are just very, very connected to the local community."

Ms Scott is contesting the seat of Lindsay which is held by Labor's David Bradbury by a margin of 1.13 per cent.

Mr Abbott's comment, delivered with a chuckle, was met with embarrassed laughter from Ms Scott and reporters.

Meanwhile you've got a Liberal Party claiming that they will cut company and income tax, won't increase the GST and attacking the APL's plan to increase cigarette taxes despite acknowledging that the government needs to increase tax revenue if it's to manage this alleged deficit. Now, I'm no mathematical genius but it would seem that these stances are all counter-productive to each other.

So unless they plan to cut funding to the already under-funded infrastructure, Education and medical systems which would inevitably damage the economy significantly they're telling lies upon lies upon lies.

Well let me answer that question with another question:
If the Liberal party can't even work out the basics of mathematics, why should we trust THEM????

Same applies to you champ. I've demonstrated that the Liberal party is just as bad, if not worse and your counter is "but you didn't answer my question".

I'd rather have a government that struggles with its economic forecasting than a government that can't do basic addition.

Staving off the effects of the GFC and keeping the GDP in positive growth (unlike the USA, UK and other first world nations) is a fair achievement considering they've been in government during the worst global economy for 20 years.

lucky they had the previous government to thank for doing such a fine job and leaving things in a great position......

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Nationals... either way you're voting for politicians. Other than those with vested interests in one party or the other there's no real reason to trust any of them.

All the economic debate on debt and deficit really baffles me...

Once you accept that the government has only fringe impact on the productivity of the country (yes spending money on education, reducing restrictions on business, managing trade relations with other countries, etc. matter but they don't really govern the actual economic performance of the country) it's quite simple...

When the economy is good, you pay off your debt and invest the extra money in infrastructure, education and future funds. This is what the Howard government did.

When the economy is bad, you spend government funds to stimulate it and keep productivity ticking over. In return you get infrastructure and education. This is what the Rudd government did.

The LNP is right to say that the economic management of the Howard government helped shield us from the GFC..... but Rudd *had* to spend that money for it to have that effect! The money was put away by John Howard for a rainy day... when that rainy day came, Rudd spent it.

The economy is jobs and productivity, not money in government coffers!!! If the country is producing, and unemployment is low, and our debt is not out of control relative to GDP (which it's NOT) what's the problem?! Economy managed.

This.

When will people realise that Government Debt is not the same as Average Joe's credit card debt.

Essential Research put a question to a sample of voters:
Q. Compared to other developed countries, do you think Australia’s national debt is higher, lower or about the same?

59% of Labor voters got the answer factually correct, 54% of Greens, but only 38% of Coalition voters.

And even then, the guy wants to be our fucking PRIME MINISTER. Pointing out his flaws is kind of the point.

Another question - if you're pro-Rudd, how do you know the labor machine won't dump him once he becomes unpopular if he did indeed win government?

And, leaving technicalities aside, how can he be referred to as PM Rudd when he was not the person the people elected 3 years ago?

It certainly seemed like an odd place to campaign. Most of the girls working there probably can't even read the ballot forms.

Because he's been sworn into office?

Probably because Labor have made changes to the party policies to ensure that he can't be booted like he was last time.

Last i checked, it was a hung vote, so no one was elected in to office really. It was basically a sign that the people didnt want either.

And, leaving technicalities aside, how can he be referred to as PM Rudd when he was not the person the people elected 3 years ago?

Because he's been sworn into office?

Last i checked, it was a hung vote, so no one was elected in to office really. It was basically a sign that the people didnt want either.

No, it was a sign that different people wanted different partys in power.

Wouldnt the fact that we have different partys and people get to vote for them already be a sign of that?? :-s

You talk of "the people" as a singular entity, when in fact they are a collective who make independent decisions. It just so happened that half of them chose one side of politics over the other.

But as a collective they could not decide on a majority. They could not say, "This is the person i want to lead my/our country."
