Graincorp The boss of US food giant Archer Daniels Midland says it is disappointed with federal treasurer Joe Hockey's decision to reject its 100 per cent takeover bid for GrainCorp.
ADM chief executive Patricia Woertz said the proposed $3.4 billion takeover of GrainCorp was in the best interests of Australia's grain growers and its economy.
"We are disappointed by this decision," she said in a statement on Friday.
"We are confident that our acquisition of GrainCorp would have created value for shareholders of ADM and GrainCorp, as well as grain growers and the Australian economy."
Ms Woertz said ADM would work with GrainCorp to maximise the return from its 19.85 percent stake in the company.
Announcing his decision on Friday morning, Mr Hockey said GrainCorp handled 85 percent of Australia's bulk grain exports and the proposed foreign takeover was not in the national interest.
"For me to reject this proposal, I had to determine that the acquisition of GrainCorp by ADM is contrary to the national interest," he said.
"Based on all the available information, I have now made that decision."
I thought Joe Hockey wouldn't "be bullied by anyone" on this matter?

Alleged Indonesian bird smugglers warned Quote:TWO Indonesian military personnel have been let off with a warning after Australian authorities uncovered an alleged bird-smuggling operation aboard a gifted Hercules military aircraft.
The men were part of a team taking delivery of a Hercules military aircraft on Thursday at Richmond airforce base near Sydney and were allegedly found loading birds - five galahs and two other parrots - hidden in bags. When the aircraft landed in Darwin for refuelling, authorities allegedly found two more parrots, Macquarie radio reported on Friday.
The Australian Customs and Border Protection Service questioned the men and, after consulting with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions, issued them with a warning, Immigration Minister Scott Morrison said. "We take these issues very seriously regardless of who is engaged with them and that's what we did on this occasion," the minister told reporters in Sydney. "If there's an offence that has been committed, then the necessary investigations and inquiries need to be undertaken."
He believes the incident will have no ramifications for relations between Australia and Indonesia. "I understand the plane has departed," he said. Mr Morrison declined to confirm whether it was a pilot or crew members questioned over the matter. Prime Minister Tony Abbott told reporters in Adelaide the investigation was appropriate. "From time to time Australians do things in Indonesia and it shouldn't be a complete surprise that occasionally it's a two-way street." http://www.news.com.au/national/breaking-news/two-questioned-over-wildlife-smuggling/story-e6frfku9-1226771201915?from=public_rss

Australia's new Liberal Party government is using the wrong strategy for rolling out the country's national broadband network (NBN) and should consolidate the planned two-stage deployment of fibre-to-the-node (FttN) technology into one rollout, a leaked internal report has revealed. http://www.zdnet.com/australian-government-using-wrong-nbn-rollout-strategy-leaked-report-warns-7000023777/

Guess who got elected on a RAFT of lies:
The Gonski school funding lie. The "We will buy the boats" lie. The "We will turn the boats back" lie. The "Budget emergency" lie. The "more open and transparent government" lie. The "legislate immediately to repeal the carbon tax" lie. ... etc

Out of everything so far, I think this is the most worrying. Attempting to censor public information.
