I used to think Hockey would be a better leader than Abbott but I can see now I was sorely mistaken.

I remember when i was a kid and he was on sunrise as one of those panelists that they bring in and laugh at funny things going on in the world. Is he still on that 'show'?

You know you've failed as a leader of the country when Clive Palmer can make you look bad.

:D

to be fair though this has been better researched than some of labours speaches

when Labour took a brilliant keynesian approach to dealing with the GFC it didn't seem like they understood keynesian economics

One telling moment (I was oversees at the time so forgive me if I have the details muddled up) was when Turnbull asked what was the NAIRU

Wayne swann proceeded to waffle - the correct answer is the concept of a NAIRU breaks down in a liquidity trap

I suspect Labour took advice from some competent people without understanding it (not that there is anything wrong with that)

Perhaps Palmer has employed an economist?

Nothing wrong with that. It would mean he's better informed than Joe Hockey.

Tone cancelling a trip to Deakin University in Geelong due to those angry Gen Y leftie communist hippies and their protests

Libs haven't been this good a source of comedy in years, all thanks to the budget.

Holy hell, listen to ABC Melbourne right now, he's getting whacked left right and centre! The callers are bringing in facts and experiences and Faine is not letting him get away with talking points, he's floundering...one caller even got him to admit he has risen taxes.

Personally I can't stand the stance he take saying this is the only way, hitting the poor and sick. I can begrudgingly come to terms with the education rise but there is no economic sense is gp taxes.

Tony Abbott getting wacked on ABC? I am shocked. The ABC?
Abbott shouldn't be dignifying them with appearing on their programs anyway. Stupid.

Anyway, I think we should privatise them and SBS, the government isn't in the business of TV station ownership. I just don't understand why any government needs to own a TV station.

Yeah his interview on AM this morning was just a rinse/repeat of the one he did just after the budget dropped.

Same buzzwords and key phrases.

How about political agendas?

Anyway, the whole thing's ridiculous, governments have better things than to fund media outlets. Makes sense for Iran or North Korea but for us it's completely unnecessary.

I just find it amazing that for someone who infamously punched the wall next to a fellow student back in the day, he would cancel due to protests. John Howard wore a bloody bullet proof vest and fronted up to a pro gun crowd when there was a threat on his life! Now I agree Socialist Alternative are wankers of the highest order living in their own bubble but if you want to make people respect you for the 'hard decisions' you make then you should stand by it, defend it, and cop whatever flack comes your way...don't run away.

Disagree with this. If the media ownership laws were changed to guarantee greater diversity of opinion, then maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing.

As it stands, privatising the ABC would undoubtedly result in yet another media organisation with dumbed-down views (dominated by the usual vapid gossip news targeted at women) to push the agendas of the cartels that own the vast majority of Australian media outlets. I'm not exactly an ABC cheerleader but appreciate the diversity of opinion it provides, especially in a media landscape that's rationalised dramatically in the last few decades.

The 24 hour news channel is kinda overkill though.

There would little point in the PM attending as his message would have been drowned out by the scornful violent protests of the angry little mob. Did the pro gun lobby push and shove and physically assault John Howard as he made his address to them? There's no rhyme or reason why any PM should have to expose themselves or put up with physical violence. As the AFP could not guarantee his safety he did the right thing and cancelled. I would even go as far as saying the socialist alliance and other marxist influenced wannabees are as dangerous as any pro gun lobby, given their whole revolutionary imperative to overthrow the capitalist powers by whatever means possible.

In saying this you're assuming that ABC isn't "dumbed down" to suit its own audience.

I just don't see how there is a need for a government run media outlet, and why Australia needs a news outlet that isn't dictated by commercial realities.

Within the media in Australia - radio, TV, print and online - there is a vast diversity of opinion already, and all these still operate within a commercial framework. I don't see how us funding a media outlet benefits Australia.

I'd rather see my ten cents a day go towards something useful, like hospitals or roads. Or reducing the debt we've run up.

Most MP's receive death threats, that doesn't mean they shouldn't front the public. But in respect to going to a university demonstration to be heckled, abused, spat on and physically assaulted, I can't see the purpose in the PM doing that? These little pretentious asshats should learn to protest peacefully if they want the PM to face them.

Plenty of kids shows and docos on commercial channels. I'd be happy if the ABC continued as they were, news service and all, but I didn't have to fund it through my taxes.

Don't know what public interest programs you're talking about, but I'd be happy for the ABC to be totally privatised, however, for the government to continue funding these public interest programs which, I presume, are of benefit to the community.

As for the rest of it, sell the bloody thing and use the money for something useful.

Plenty of kids shows and docos on commercial channels. I'd be happy if the ABC continued as they were, news service and all, but I didn't have to fund it through my taxes.

Parents should be able to let their young children watch tv without having them exposed to excessive advertising.

Privatized media serves their own commercial interests. The ABC has no such concerns and should be allowed to continue as such.

Abbott shouldn't be going to stupid meetings like these. Audiences are stacked against him, he'll get shouted down continuously and at the end won't change the mind of a hostile, leftist mob.
