Not sure every house in Australia needs a highway at their door step Perhaps not yet, just as well it's configured initially to be a standard sealed road and can be upgraded to a highway with just minor hardware upgrades. Regardless, they certainly need right now something that is reliable and not useless as soon as something as common as rain occurs. Also have to ask how people would feel about getting gravel and cobblestones out the front of their house when it's still going to take many many years to build, for what is a very modest saving in cost and greatly reduced potential for increased economic activity :-k

I believe the whole FTTP 100mbps = massive economic stimulus is mostly guff. Most people who spew that kind of sophistry generally don't know much about economics. Remember there are 5 speed tiers on NBN ranging from 12mbps to 100mbps and close to 75% of NBN subscribers have elected speeds 25mbps per seconds or less. As take up rates of NBN increase due to Telstra switching off copper services there and people are forced onto fibre there is an increasing trend of customers preferencing the cheaper plans over those which offer faster speeds. IT/tech sites are generally silent about this trend though, although they were all over it when 100mbps take up was much higher arguing this was proof that ftth was in high demand. The ironic thing about MTM is it will probably be as fast if not faster than FTTH, as speed will be determined by technical factors rather than consumer choice. As for MTM I wouldn't support it if it didn't deliver substantial cost savings (ie many billions) and completed much sooner, which makes sense because the global experience and consensus is FTTN costs about 1/3 as FTTH and is rolled out much quicker obviously not having to dig up peoples drive ways and gardens.

Only if you already own the network which NBNCo doesn't. I wonder who does own it and therefore will do very well out of this new MTM arrangement... Edited by mcjules: 18/12/2014 12:19:42 PM

-PB Chances are the gunman wouldn't have attempted the siege (as he would know Texas has concealed carry) or when he started the siege someone would have shot him in the back. How those gun laws working now?

Bingo! Note AFL connection, ¾ of the way down the article! http://www.theage.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/clive-palmer-media-adviser-andrew-crook-detained-over-alleged-kidnapping-reports-20141219-12ai47.htmlClive Palmer media adviser Andrew Crook detained over alleged kidnapping: reports Date December 19, 2014 - 11:23AM Latika Bourke and Bevan Shields Clive Palmer's media adviser, Andrew Crook, has been detained in raids connected to the alleged kidnapping of a bank executive. The ABC is reporting Mr Crook has been detained by Queensland police as part of an investigating into the alleged kidnapping of a National Australia Bank executive in Indonesia. In a statement, Queensland Police said while investigating another matter, Taskforce Maxima's Criminal Economy Team has uncovered evidence which on Friday resulted in the arrest of two men and the issuing of a warrant for the arrest of a third man. The arrested people are a 51-year-old man from the Gold Coast and 48-year-old man from New Farm. The third man, aged 48, is not currently in Australia. Mr Palmer confirmed to Fairfax Media that Mr Crook has been detained at his offices in Brisbane. Mr Palmer said he was "concerned to know" what Mr Crook's detention was allegedly about and said he personally had no knowledge of any of the allegations being reported in the media. However, Mr Palmer seemed to suggest that the raid may be politically motivated. "The timing seems to be a little bit strange... it does seem coincidental that this is happening just before the state election," he told Fairfax Media. He said he was concerned that police had seized Mr Crook's computers, which contained the Palmer United Party's media and political strategy for the Queensland state election. Mr Palmer insisted Mr Crook was not a flight risk as he has family and business interests in Australia. He also likened Mr Crook's detention to that of jailed Australian journalist Peter Greste in Egypt and claimed his media adviser performed "a journalist's function" by writing media releases for the PUP. Fairfax Media understands police have also issued a search warrant for property developer and former Sydney Swans AFL player Tony Smith. The charges stem from an elaborate scheme which police will allege was planned partly in Queensland with key elements executed in Singapore and Indonesia before returning to Queensland where the offences were committed. Detective Superintendent Michael Niland and Detective Inspector Phil Stevens from Taskforce Maxima will hold a media conference this afternoon. Mr Palmer, Mr Crook and the National Australia bank have been contacted for comment.

I suspect this is why the AFL bloke is in the frame http://www.news.com.au/news/tony-smith-sues-nab-for-his-lost-fortune/story-fna7dq6e-1225756934625TOURISM entrepreneur and former Sydney Swans star Tony Smith is suing the National Australia Bank for almost $70 million over the collapse of his business empire. The local high-flyer - who owned one of the largest mansions in Queensland but was forced to sell it to entrepreneur Daniel Tzvetkoff - is alleging several of his failed business dealings were as a result of an agreement with one of the country's largest banks. Late yesterday afternoon, the former owner of Breakfree Resorts launched a civil action in the Supreme Court of Queensland through his family company, AKS Investments Pty Ltd.
