+x+xAlso, I think it is very naive to believe that anything on the web is actually secure. There is no such thing as 100% security on the net. Any cyber expert will tell you this as fact! No Government Sites are secure either. Even Government Departments like ATO, ABS, Medicare and PBS are not secure. Sure they may spend a lot of money on security but NOTHING is 100% secure. heck, even the CIA, NSA and FBI have been hacked. banks have been hacked! Hillary Clinton had her emails hacked and now you can read them all on WikiLeaks! lol Agree nothing is totally secure but plenty of checks and balances in place to monitor their security. I think a lot of it falls back on users ensuring their own security too. We live in a digital age, so it's just ensuring that systems are continually updated to ensure the best level of protection is available and earns the trust of users. Mate, it doesn't matter how many checks and balances there are. As I pointed out, hackers had lodged a fraudulent tax claim on my behalf and they would have got the money if it were not for my timely legitimate attempt to lodge my personal tax return. I could have got into a lot of trouble as well, and be faced with the prospect of trying to prove my innocence. If the CIA and NSA or US Government can't secure their data, then just imagine how well developed the hacking industry actually is in order to achieve the feats they do. The question here is also whether you accept the Governments new metadata laws and whether you feel comfortable with the Government infringing upon your personal liberty and your human right to withhold information which actually belongs to you. At the moment, they are threatening you with prosecution should you not succumb and comply with their demands. There was also no consultation with the public. Clearly, it isn't going to stop, not any time soon unless the people make a stand against this arrogance.

Controversial motions at Liberal conferenceUpdated: 6:33 am, Saturday, 13 August 2016A motion against recognising Indigenous Australians in the constitution will be debated at the WA Liberal state conference this weekend.Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will address MPs and party members on Saturday morning before policy motions are discussed and voted on behind closed doors. The first Aboriginal member of the House of Representatives, Liberal MP Ken Wyatt, and his nephew Ben Wyatt, who is WA Labor's treasury and Aboriginal affairs spokesman, both expressed their disappointment the motion was on the agenda.Premier Colin Barnett has already indicated he does not support the motion, which was put forward by the Young Liberal Movement, while WA Labor leader Mark McGowan wrote to Mr Turnbull asking him to make the WA branch withdraw it.Other policy motions to be discussed include calling on the federal government to reject any proposals to rename Australia Day 'Invasion Day ' and to reaffirm confidence in the founding narrative of our nation on January 26, 1788'.Sherry Sufi, the disendorsed Liberal candidate for Fremantle, will call on the federal government to resurrect Abbott government's abandoned plans to repeal section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act.Mr Sufi told Sky News he's disappointed the government didn't follow through on plans to scrap section 18-C during the 44th parliament.State policy motions include abandoning automatic three-yearly parole reviews for prisoners serving life or indefinite terms and creating a Country Fire Authority that would be independent from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.AAP- See more at: http://www.skynews.com.au/news/top-stories/2016/08/13/controversial-motions-at-libs-wa-conference.html#sthash.gU4bb1HO.dpufYoung Liberals ladies and gentleman. -PB

He knows 18C is a very low priority for Australians, that's why he didnt push it when he was PM, b ut he will push it now because it makes life hard for Turnbull.

I don't often complain about Q&A but this week for National Science Week they had Brian Cox and Lily Serna on. Could have been a great opportunity to get an insight into the science industry and experts in their fields so who else did they invite? 3 politicians, one being the nutcase senator "Malcolm-Ieuan: Roberts., the living soul". It was good comedy but embarrassing and an opportunity missed.

A young person is going to trail and could be $200k in debt for the quote above which was posted on QUT stalker space. Does that not make you question the application of this law? It also means that David Leyonhjelm can sue the journalist that called him an 'angry white male'. Can't see a trial coming from that one somehow.......

I think it was last week they had someone from one of the big two parties who totally brushed off questions on renewable energy targets and investment by talking about how big the role of fossil fuels is in our economy. It felt scripted.

Good thing is, the law doesn't work that way. A Judge is obliged to interpret the laws as they are defined and in this case its 18C. The question that will be asked, do the comments attributed to Lino fall foul of the 18C provisions. The answer to that is obviously YES. Whether its attention seeking or not is irrelevant. A judge has no choice but to interpret the 18C provisions against the comments attributed to Lino.

The original story is run by The Australian which you need to subscribe to. My understanding of the case is that three students tried to use an indigenous only computer lab (Oodgeroo Room) and were told to leave by the staff member who is suing them under the act in response to the facebook post I quoted above. There were several comments to the original facebook post. I have a major issue with university resources being reserved for a single race. Every other race/ethnicity has to form a university group and book facilities for their group through proper channels. Why shouldn't Leyonhjelm win the case? It is 100% an attention seeking move. I understand that his intention is to show how the discrimination act can be abused.

Yes and panders to Leyonhejlm's "chicken little" political base. The law actually has a reasonable amount of protection to free speech (in 18D but the anti-PC brigade don't like to talk about that) and for those reasons it's more about political than anything else.

'nuff said. As for getting that fuckwit on last night how ridiculous. It was science week. How is he qualified? Imagine having a discussion on evolutionary biology and getting a fundamentalist young earth creationist on for 'balance'. Retarded ABC logic. Mind you had they not got a dissenter on the parrots would have been squawking that the other side wasn't getting a platform. Reminds me when the ABC had Dawkins on and Stephen Fielding. Dawkins blown away by the man's stupidity and gobsmacked that he was actually in Parliament.

+xAnyone that isn't a high profile public figure though? -PB If they are not high profile, then probably the media will not report it. This is the issue though. the law seems to be aimed at media and politicians as I doubt anyone low profile will be prosecuted. People like Pauline Hanson will need to watch it. Lino has the right idea. Every white middle aged male should utilize the 18C provisions. There are a tonne of these which seem to be acceptable but according to 18C they are not.
