+x+xI always vote for the Greens in the senate despite the few loopy ones. I believe the fact that the incumbent government can't jam through whatever it wants in a friendly senate easily outweighs the few weird statements the Greens put out occasionally. Generally I think they're value for money. And as a bonus it drives my father-in-law nuts. (He believes the senate should be a rubber stamp.) I used to vote Greens because I respect Bob Brown as leader who, despite his faults, is a genuine environmental conservationist. That is what the greens should be about. Now ithey're just run by the dickheads that hand out 'Socialist Alliance' newspapers out the front of the Fischer Library at Sydney uni. Yep. Since bob Brown stepped down and had the doctor who I forgot the name of and Adam bandt. They gone from left to centre right and most of the time side with the lnp. They sold their soul

When they killed Rudd's emissions trading scheme in 2010 it should have been plain for all to see.

You're right about the old Dems having that spot in the past but that's Green territory now.

Definitely agree that a two-house parliament provides more checks and balances between the government and the governed and is usually a good thing. It's fucking laughable that the UK still have their version of it in the 21st century though.

I agree they keep the two major parties in check but sadly the greens tend to side with one side way to much. If only the dems were still around. Whom I actually voted for when I turned 18

I'm sure the people who were up in arms about Dan Andrews getting out of the East West Link tunnel contract (even though scrapping it was an election promise) will be strangely quiet right about now.

Indeed. And the libs put it through before election knowing people wouldn’t vote for it.

+x20 years until they're deployed? hmmm take out a snippet of an article mind you........one of all things with Krudd and good ol Abbout agreeing lol....who'd have thought that would occur. Sure has stirred the hornets nest. I commend going nuclear mind you and aligning with the UK/USA - good alliance that stirred up the CCP (sorry for the French ce la vie) and locally the greens and all jumping up and down. Too funny but good news, like to know the real facts how/when these subs do end up in deployment.

We might be getting some early and the 20 year date represents something else. I'm not entirely sure about how I feel about this deal. It's good that we're modernising our fleet but also bad that we are so reliant and locked in with the US. Would also like to see us de-escalating our tensions with China but at the same time, what do they expect when they're pushing us around with all these trade tariffs.

And the irony of the CCP applying to join the TPP which was set up to counter China's influence and aggression. The CCP are a joke. Old Winnie the Pooh trying to have it both ways.

China has tripled the size of it's navy in less than two decades. De-escalation is not possible unless we essentially agree to becoming a vassal state.

https://youtu.be/a_Y4QQ8Hm3kIf anyone has a spare 1.5 hours this is a very detailed overview of the whole future submarine project, from an outside party (ex US Nuclear submariner) and he talks in detail about how France fucked us over and how they hired ex politicians/RAN personalities to use against us at the negotiation table.

If even a 3rd is true like I said earlier, I was all for the new alliance with the UK and USA. They will at least be behind us if needed compared to the French. tsf, Nah mate never been in a active sub and TBH I never will, I couldn't bare the thought being under there in those small confindes. Bad enough being in a plane waywayway up there but I'm used to that.

+xAnyone here been in a submarine? besides them holiday ones you get off the islands in fiji or disneyland btw Yeah I have... clautraphobic as all hell. Got smuggled onto a military sub a cousin of mine was serving on for a 10 minute tour and HATED every second... Didnt go under water and the hatch never closed but I felt like I was going to drown. Those submariners are a special breed to be able to put up with it for a weeks at a time.
