I want to check out the state league teams based in and around Sydney. Are there any clubs that aren't actually based around a certain ethnic minority? I don't feel like I would belong at an Olympic, United or Marconi game for example, so looking for some suggestions.

Actually, anything below state league would be cool too.

Thanks.

Are you trolling???

Olympic are current state league champions, United Runners up.

But you should base your State league attendance around the Cevapi! United is pretty good, but Word has it Wolongong is the best.

Out of interest, why? Apart from the hysteria spouted on these forums of course.

Serious question, too - because I feel welcome at any state league ground in WA regardless of the club's background.

And +1 for judging based on cevapi!

In the NSWPL Olympic get the best crowds (they are not all Greek) and have done for a long time

Any weekend at Belmore to watch them play United, Marconi, APIA, Sutherland, Parramatta, Bonnyrigg are the big drawing matches and are a lot of fun

Edensor Park, Marconi, Seymour Shaw, Lambert Park, Melita Stadium, Bonnyrigg are great grounds to watch the football and you cant go wrong with any of them

As for not being welcome, please dont be ridiculous get out there and watch some matches all around the NSWPL, but particularly the one's i mentioned

I arrived in Australia after the NSL was gone, and just from a lot I've heard about it on tv, news, radio it sounds like there's a lot of racial tension and things. Admittedly for the Olympic view it was because of the guy (can't remember his username) that constantly came on here about them. Suppose that's not fair but I don't especially feel Greek (and in so; welcome, by him/his mates).

I've never been to a state league game and actually really want to. I want to support "my" local club throughout the season.

I have had first hand experience with a "cultured" club being Marconi. We tryed out and my typical Australian White Daughter was welcomed with open arms. Sure there was plenty of Italians around but the whole experience we had was great and if I hadnt moved away I am sure I would still be there. I actually had great fun watching their passion for the game and we had plenty of laughs and a few beers together.

People just need to relax, you might not understand every word or chant but we all have the same goal and passion in Football together.

Please dont use the ethnic minority tag, Greeks, Italians, Croatians, Serbians, Maltese have been in this country for nearly 100 years now and have contributed in every sector and in every facet of Australian society

There is no gestapo outside state league matches and they dont check passports to see who they shall allow into grounds, have an open mind

Manly United (Northern Beaches) or Sutherland Sharks (Shire) would be your best bet.

APIA is good too - they have Sausage Sizzles at their game. And Australian Beer.

Olympic had hot chips, cevapi and souvlaki on the menu last year. not sure what you mean about an ethnic minority or why that would be bad. anyway we're an Australian club and very proud of it.

im sure if you wanted to watch some good football youd feel right at home watching Olympic v Sydney United in round 2

if its a local club youre after then we cant change where you live! lots of teams in the league so it depends on which is closest. certainly not an ethnic thing

Don't get me wrong guys, I have no problem with some kind of "ethnic minority" kind of idea, I am one myself! And by local I just mean in Sydney, don't have a problem travelling.

Thanks for the suggestions anyway guys, I will go to at least a few of the clubs games to check it out!

You want a true state league experience?

Rd1 - Olympic vs Rockdale at Belmore Sports Ground
Rd2 - Sydney United vs Olympic at Edensor Park

And any game at APIA is great (biggest crowd they get at there home ground is vs Olympic)

Yes, we are of croatian heritage, though why should that stop you from going? i have many friends that attend sydney united games that arnt of croatian background, for ex, aussies, maltese, even one of our sponsor for years is Australian.

If you want to watch good football, base your matches around olympic, united, bonnyrigg and blacktown...

Blacktown Demons would be your best bet after taking into consideration what you have been saying.

Not a Phase, Not a Trend, SYDNEY UNITED till the END!

if i was you i would definetly try to make olympic vs united, last years champions and runners up, and also they have pretty good support.
also blacktown city vs blacktown spartans, be a part of history as the first blacktown derby
but otherwise go watch your local team and see how they feel to you

In regards to the first division yes I beleive it is. Previously though (last season IIRC) City and Spara have played each other in the Warratah Cup.

Not really, for some reason there has always been a Springfield V Shelbyville rivalry between the two. they may not be heavily supported, but those that do really don't like each other.

Why even choose one team or one division? Take a look through the fixtures and pick what looks like the match of the round and just go for it.

The 2 I haven't felt like I was part of the commune was Bonnyrigg and Olympic. Both times someone had to order my food for me because the person behind the counter looked like they wanted to kill me for daring to speak to them in English. If it's changed from 2 years ago, then more power to them, but Marconi and APIA were the complete opposite. I've never been to a United home game though.

In terms of "non-mono-ethnic" clubs, Sutherland Sharks and Manly United seem to be the best bets. I also keep up to date with the Macarthur Rams, while Blacktown Demons are fun too

Pretty much. You might get the odd sourpuss in a canteen, but mistaking that for some kind of racist/exclusionary attitude is a bit rich.
