Haliti is also good mates with milicic so the signing makes sense. I think if he's in the right system he could be a surprise. I've always thought he was under rated too, but only is in the right system. Hoping they bring in another formidable attacker though. Bridge and haliti upfront will need someone creative to help them along.

i'd be very happy if we sign NTS. i've always seen him to be a solid centre-back. along with chipperfield and beauchamp, a RB from then nswpl and ante covic, that would be awesome.

Wiki says Quote:Western Sydney has access to a high number of local players through its local leagues, as well as players competing in the New South Wales Premier League. Players linked with the club include fringe Socceroo Richard Garcia, Dylan Macallister, Paul Reid, Tarek Elrich, Michael Beauchamp, Shannon Cole, Labinot Haliti, Sean Rooney, Chris Coyne, Josh Mitchell and Ante Covic.

Hmm Chippers from 'gong, Neill from the Northern Suburbs, Bouzanis from Sutherland Shire, Dylan Macallister from Manly, NTS from Canberra... I guess it was always inevitable you'd have to look from outside the West Sydney heartland, but still it the club can secure atleast a dozen 'West Sydney products' in the first season, then that would be a pretty good result? And if you sign some of the guys rumoured, like those I mentioned, then they are Sydneysiders or from near Sydney anyway.
Mark Bridge, Ante Covic, Tarek Elrich, Mile Sterjovski, Channon Cole, Michael Beauchamp, Paul Reid, Jason Culina, Ante Rozic, Trent McClenahan, Labinot Haliti... They're all West Sydney.
That's a pretty competitive bunch too.
Aswell as Bouzanis and Chippers, there could be some more 'Aussies Abroad' looking to return home that we haven't even considered aswell.

Chuck in Covic, Elrich, Reid, Culina, Rozic, McClenahan, ReidGeorgievski, Haliti, Chipperfield and theres enough players there to give them a competitive team along with soem NSWPL players.
Obviously wont get all but if they can get a good chunk of that they will have a decent team. Pretty sure Bouzanis was never at Sydney FC. Also you named at least 4 RB's

Ange just thought it was worth a crack. I could be wrong though (hopefully) Edited by roarz: 2/6/2012 05:14:04 PM

Some good names mentioned above. When is the first announcement of players expected? And hopefully Lucas will be one of them. He could be as influential for Western Sydney as what Muscat was for Victory, only not nearly as dirty.

As mentioned earlier, the 4 names that they registered have been accepted and are currently being advertised for opposition claims or something until September the 1st I'm led to believe. I have no idea however trademark law works in Australia, so I'm just saying what I've read, I'd be very happy if someone with a knowledge of the subject here could explain it more. I'm not sure as to whether they can name the club and use it yet, or whether it will have to stay until after September, which to me seems like an extremely long time to wait.
From this though we know that the names are down to West Sydney/ Western Sydney/ Sydney West Wanderers, Wolves, Strikers or Athletic though. I'll check some things and post more later.

The sooner they announce the name, kit, sponsors, logo the better. Yes, I agree, the sooner the better for them. I can only hope there's a lot more happening behind the scenes than what is going on publicly. Notwithstanding the challenges of getting up and running in such a short time, there will soon be a perception among potential fans and sponsors that the administration behind the club is disorganised. That would be harsh, but it will happen. Anyway, I hope to hear somehting very soon, at least a handful of player signings.

Okay, the Sydney Rovers FC side announced their name, colours and badge on Friday the 2nd of October 2009 from what I can find. According to the trademark information I can find their acceptance date, the same thing (from what I gather) that West Sydney FC and its various names received yesterday was the 29th of September (the Tuesday), that is, it appears that the name, colours and badge were announced a mere two days after acceptance and before the end of the advertisement period (again, I have no idea how Australian trademarks work). From this it appears that they didn't need to wait until the end of this advertisement period (or its proper name, I'm really not sure) and as such I'd assume that the new Sydney side doesn't either.
Conclusion, an announcement could be very soon.
So, which one will it be? Wanderers, Athletic, Strikers or Wolves?

'twill be Western Sydney Wanderers. They will be in black and red. Coached by Tony Popovic Assistant- Ante Millicic. General manager- John Tsatsimas (tbc) Goalkeeping coach-Ron Corry(tbc) Home games at Parramatta, derbies at ANZ
First 4 signings look likely to be the following- Elrich (tbc) Haliti (tbc) Bridge (tbc) Cole (tbc) Almost tied up- NTS Chasing -Bouzanis Most likely -Covic -Chipperfield

I like the way the club seem to be conducting their business professionally and not via the media.

williamn wrote:i sure hope its west over western. western is a mouthful, west sydney wanderers just flows I hate how the AFL bods now refer to the Giants as GWS. I hope that won't happen with our new club. WSW is to much of a mouthful. Hopefully they will be referred to as West Sydney or Wanderers.

Personally I think a derby between the two Sydney teams at ANZ is a very good idea, with advertising support this game could easily acheive well in excess of 50k...it takes the game, the teams and the code to a whole new level of interest and market, and media interest skyrockets.
