giving the club a simple name like West Sydney Football Club allows for future expansion in the sydney west without having to change the name similar to queensland/brisbane roar. as there will always be a region it can represent even if a parramatta or blacktown or penrith side enters the league in the future.

Western Sydney could be in for a bumpy ride in the next 12-18 months...let's hope the FFA get it right.

Edited by Joffa: 25/2/2012 05:08:37 PM I love Western Sydney Football Club as the name. Just like that, no abbreviation to 'FC' or addition of an animal name like 'mammoths'. A very traditional crest, no basketball logos, and you have the making of great team already. That would be my choice as well, as for colours, what about black and white stripes as the home kit. Black and white yes ..... but vertical arrows as western sydney was where the first jail was set up for women !!!!! That would make them "Western Sydney Football club Hoes"............. Great value for your buck .............. I can here the gallery chanting ..........Onya knnees please ............ pass the popcorn !!!!!!!!

Lucas Neill will be an outstanding choice as captain and a ringing endorsement for a WS team...booking three games at the Olympic Stadium is an interesting sign.

Seriously can a Western Sydney team do any worse than a Gold Coast team. Having 3 teams in QLD was a joke. Outside of Brisbane it is purely rugby league territory. We need to pick our fights carefully. The participation numbers in NSW swamp any other state this alone should help to create better links. It is no gurantee but it is a better upstart.

Western Sydney won't work. The market simply isn't there. The people who follow football in the area are those who you would classify as 'bitters', those whose teams have been sidelined by the new administration - what makes them think they will take up interest in an A-league team? Look at the failure Sydney FC have been crowds wise, and they had a bigger market. Now the market will dwindle even more.... Over saturation when there is no take up is a recipe for disaster.
Sydney FC's fan base will continue to dwindle, the Western Sydney team won't be able to break even. When you consider the ground work that the AFL have been doing in the area, making a tangible difference and winning over the hearts and minds of youngsters, the odds are stacked enormously against this Western Sydney side.

I don't want anothe terrible generic logo do something symbolic of the region like the parra river or the three sisters. Anything but a fucking massive football in the middle with the name west Sydney around it.

I would like to see "Sydney Wanderers" as the name.
Team to play out of Parramatta Stadium for ALL GAMES. That is our home territory. DO NOT move some games to Homebush!
Colours should be like AS Roma - a maroon colour with gold trim. That would look awesome.
Build a training HQ out at Blacktown olympic park where they were gonna build the new world cup stadium (at the athletics track).
Team to play pre-season games at Penrith and Campbelltown.
Do it.
Now.

I like Cumberland County due to it being the historical name of the region, the fact that its drawing population lives on the Cumberland Plain and its home ground is Cumberland Oval (Parramatta Stadium). The emblem should be an Australian Raven, a species which was first classified at Parramatta in 1827 and is found in Parramatta Park, Lake Parramatta and the mangrove swamps on the Parramatta River nearby and has adapted well to city life. It has black plumage with deep purple and greenish lights and stark white irises. Plenty of ammunition to develop team colours from that. The nick could be the Ravens or the Birds (with reference to the gaol nearby ;) ) An alternative name could be Sydney Ravens. Ideas for chants might derive from the video below. :d http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ws0jtVuh12cEdited by gyfox: 5/3/2012 04:00:23 PM
