So you think the West should be droped from any name Erebus?
And how many internaional ppl follow the A-Leauge outside of australia?

Don't like the fact a logo is being drawn up before we even know the NAME, COLOURS and and clear idea of the SYMBOLS to use. This in bold - go away leave it alone till there's some "facts" ......

So you think the West should be droped from any name Erebus? Personally, I'd rather West(ern) in the name of the team. I understand the reasoning behind the Rovers decision to drop it, but I'd rather it was there because it gives us our identity and draws the invisible borders of allegiance against Sydney FC. My main objection was the name "Western Suburbs". That means nothing to anyone outside of Sydney. Quote:And how many internaional ppl follow the A-Leauge outside of australia? You may be surprised. The A-League is shown on ESPN in America. (I've seen ads for it when watching an ESPN stream) But its not about "who follows the A-League". What about the ACL? Or the World Club Championships? Or other invitational tournaments in Hawaii? Remember, A-League clubs don't only play in Australia. We play in international tournaments too. FC Tokyo Coach to his players: "We are playing Western Suburbs in the ACL this week" Player: "Western Suburbs of what?"

A potential WS fan in Cgorac is drawing up badges with the name he wants, the symbol he wants and the colors he wants. And since all these things should be decided by the supporters he's completely within his rights to do so.

Your right but with the west as u said it also gives us our own identity compared to Sydney FC. And to M.L it's not an egale but a Falcon/Black Falcon...

Many people in other countries know about Sydney, but not many know any other Australian city. If we had "Sydney" in our name I guarantee we would have a massive international standing. Leave it out at our peril.
Where the hell is Western Suburbs? Where the hell is Melbourne?

I think the two "undroppables" are "West" and "Sydney". "West" to unite...well...the west of Sydney and give the club a vital geographic identity, and Sydney because Sydney is a big international city with a strong identity, although .
As for the rest of it - never did like "Rovers" although it wasn't the worst option available. Forget animals and vegetables, those stupid nicknames are just plain annoying.
Ape international football names - say "Athletic" or "Sporting" and it just looks very artificial. You might as well go with a traditional name. "United" is very overused, (and yes I have heard of Sydney United), but something like "United West Sydney" would be OK.
Not an inspiring name I agree, and needs more work, but the name has to reflect the region IMO.

Are there any generic motifs associated with the Western Suburbs of Sydney that could be used as a nickname/mascot? For eg. I see the Falcon/Eagle designs on here and I'm wondering if that's something a sizeable portion of prospective fans would be receptive to or not.. My idea for the franchise is a revival of the original Wanderers side of 1880, but on second thoughts it *might* be too evocative of 'colonial White Australia' for an area whose population is arguably the most diverse in the whole country, with a strong youth-demographic equally-likely to be turned off by something with a 19th-Century motif. It's a shame because I'm beginning to think the new AFL side's colours and nickname are as good as anything that will eventuate down the track:( Edited by ba81: 13/3/2012 05:49:46 PM

I agree with those two things. It would be kinda silly to call yourselves 'Athletic' without having any kind of affiliation with an athletic club or the establishment of one, which I don't see happening. Might as well use the name Real Sydney without receiving any kind of patronage to do so.

it was a pretty tough job, but just a few more suggestions:
west sydney gunners west sydney diamond west sydney saints west sydney wolves west sydney warriors west sydney town west sydney knights west sydney spurs
for me, i liked the name sydney rovers, but i'd happily take warriors, wolves and despite its doom days, knights.

Perhaps something like West Sydney Union, as a bit of an alternative to united, symbolises the bringing together of all west Sydney areas, without using the tired united name,it would also be unique for the A-league, then just use the falcon in the badge.

Rafin's meaning with the Logo with the Falcon in it is as the falcon is on a black background like in night sky with the stars like the southern cross. Here is the Logo with out West on It

That's an interesting idea. I'm surprised I've never heard of a team with a "Union" suffix. Still give it a thumbs down though

For some reason I imagine West Sydney in red and yellow. I still think there needs to be a club in the league with the name city as well. Sydney City in yellow and red and the fans can come up with thier own nickname?

Sydney City in yellow and red and the fans can come up with thier own nickname? There was a "Sydney City" in the old NSL - Frank Lowy's team, Hakoah. To the conspiracy theorists, Sydney FC is really Sydney City in disguise. Both teams are sky blue, are/were owned by Frank, and are from the Eastern Suburbs. Also, Western Sydney is not the "City" - it's the "Suburbs".

Sydney City in yellow and red and the fans can come up with thier own nickname? Sydney City would work for literally any other club other than West Sydney. The West Sydney club is supposed to represent anything west of the central city area and be opposed to those who live there (who should be SFC fans). Adelaide City would have been a much better name for Adelaide United imo. I can understand why no club wants to use that suffix though, as it might alienate potential fans who don't consider themselves as city folk and live on the outskirts of the area.
