Offside :P

A (relatively common for penalties) common occurrence is when a player takes a penalty, it hits the post and he kicks it again. Whether or not the ball goes into the back of the net after that, it's an indirect free kick if no other player touches it after he has taken the free kick, and then touches it again.

Another common one is dissent towards referees.

Some of the question answers are a little dodgy but overall it's a good quiz.

You are 100% correct on the call about the tackle.

If the tackler didn't trip the other player or put the other player in danger (eg; Studs up, lunging from any direction, tackling from behind, using arms/elbows) and the tackler took the ball first then is it no foul and thus no penalty.

It is good isn't it?

Well done, Joe.

I'm ending up refereeing a lot these days. I haven't done it with regular assistants before. It makes it easier for old crocks like me.

I tend to say to the assistants play the advantage to the attacking team, rather than the reverse. Only if someone is really blatantly offside do I instruct the assistants to put the flag up. I try to increase the probability of scoring for both teams.

I'm never sure of direct and indirect free kicks. Again, apart from kicks from the keeper or goal kicks, I tend to have all the others as direct and tell both coaches.

One other rule I'm unsure about is this. One of our club coaches says I should have awarded a penalty to our team. An opposition player made what I thought was a superb sliding tackle in the penalty box. The player got the ball first. Our player went down after being collected, after, the ball had been contacted. I complimented the opposition player for an excellent tackle. Am I wrong?

Does anyone know the law?

Does anyone else think time goes really slowly when refereeing? I frequently look at my watch , thinking I've been refereeing for 40 minutes or so, yet only 5 minutes have elapsed.

Great resource, really highlights where one makes assumptions about ones knowledge.

This is definitely not easy, averaging about 80% so far. Think I'll go through them again.

Inadvertently I've found myself regularly refereeing club games from under 15 up to senior level, but lower divisions and social rosters.

I was pretty confident, and always am in games, until I look at the questions in this test.

on coach courses you have to take it, its surprising some actually fail even when they have had an hours chat from a ref who goes thru scenarios.

Couldn't get it to work.

Having said that I struggled to pass a refereeing test in a FFA course. The test had a lot of difficult questions like the AFC one you've posted.
