Does anyone else think the whole Jorah being a spy thing was rather pointless and glanced over?

Extremely.

It was just like the reveal of who killed Jon Arryn - rushed and seemingly unimportant.

It was in the first season. The Jon Arryn one was appropriate for who the discussion was between and I think the reaction was appropriate for the characters and showed the length of the manipulation.

Jorah being a spy was explained in season 1, was doing it for a royal pardon. Don't really have a problem with the way Jon Arryns cause of death was revealed either, it felt natural enough to me at the time.

Yeah I thought the audience was already supposed to know that he was originally spying, might have to check back on that.

Wow glad I didn't come in earlier.

How fast did that episode go, i was gutted when it ended. Up until a few weeks ago I had no idea Jorah was a spy, I must have not been into it as much when it was said, but I'm glad it was mentioned again. I found the look Oberyn gave when he heard that Jorah was no longer a spy interesting.

So many questions from that trial, did Varys betray Tyrion, Who organised all the bullshit, Cersei is the obvious answer but I also suspect Tywin, who I also think completely manipulated Jaime, and wtf is Shae doing?

Also it seems Varys wants the throne?

I've also spoke to a few people who completely missed the Jon Arryn bit from the episode two weeks ago.

Swear in earlier seasons varys said he had no want for the throne.

And yeah same here. Remember them saying his name but completely forgot who he was/ his significance.

Like a lot of things GoT related, its done for those who go back and re-check things or really really look into things.

Not the kind of show/books to just flick through ala Twilight and put it down.

Next ep will probably be mostly all Wall/Dany leaving the penultimate ep for the trial.

Rockorgan will be the end of the season I'd say.

I thought the episode started very well, slowed down a bit in the middle- but then gave 15 epic minutes of CSI: Westeros.

That'll be Peter Dinklage's tape he submits to the Emmys, surely?

I hate to sound like that one c*nt who always big notes Breaking Bad...but I'm going to anyway.

That speech was brilliant and Dinklage owned it it, but we're talking about one scene here and he's going to face very stiff competition from Aaron Paul in the best supporting category. Paul's character underwent greater suffering and anguish throughout the final season than Tyrion has in GoT S04 imo, and he was captivating throughout. I'm not trying to start a dick measuring contest between GoT and BB but this is one phenomenal scene, whereas the BB writers afforded Paul far greater opportunities to showcase his talents.

As for best lead, I'm not sure about the eligibility criteria but considering the large cast size of GoT and resulting shared airtime would he even be eligible? Even if he was though, Bryan Cranston and Matthew McConnaughey were phenomenal in BB and True Detective respectively, I can't see anyone pipping one of them for best lead tbh.

My interpretation:

- Varys, like Baelish, is loyal only to himself. He likes Tyrion, but he isn't selfless enough to sacrifice his own power (and extremely long machinations) for him.
- Cersei built the case against Tyrion, I believe there was a scene a couple of episodes back where she was talking to Tywin about it and he tacitly gave her permission to build her case as she liked. I believe the scene with Oberyn was an attempt to win him over. Tywin was just gleefully willing to use Cersei's witch hunt for his own benefit as he despises Tyrion. Jamie offering to leave the King's Guard was exactly what he wanted, so there was never going to be any hesitation about denying Cersei's bloodlust to make that happen.
- Shae felt she was horrendously betrayed by Tyrion, she loved him and- as far as she could tell- he forced her away when he was done with her, labelling her a whore and claiming to have never loved her. The viewer knows he did this to protect her, she does not.
- Varys doesn't want to sit in the throne, he wants to control it. There is a difference there. Sitting on the throne is a good way to significantly shorten your life span, however if you position yourself as indispensable to those who sit on the throne and wield the power to manipulate their actions you preserve your own life and have true power. I feel there is an entire background game between Baelish and himself for control of the seven kingdoms from the shadows.

Just rewatched on the plane. Shae seemed somewhat remorseful, I have a feeling she was a plant by Tywin all along, surely she's not dooming Tyrion just out of being scorned.
