23.05.12 – Capital Football appoint Warren Grieve as new Technical Director

Capital Football is delighted to announce Warren Grieve as the new Technical Director to replace Royston Thomas who has returned home to his native Wales. Grieve will commence his role on the 27th June.

The 33 year old has extensive coaching experience across a ten year career in football having worked as a Coach at Stevenage Borough Football Academy in the UK, a Regional Manager with Major League Soccer in the USA and Senior Development Officer / High Performance Coach at Football West.

Grieve holds many coaching certificates including the AFC A-Licence (pending final assessment), a UEFA B Licence and numerous FFA and FA related coaching diplomas. As well as the outdoor game, Grieve is also well versed in the five-a-side version holding an FA Level 2 Futsal Licence and he has a thorough knowledge of the national curriculum and FFA Technical Plan.

“It’s a good opportunity after being based in Western Australia for four years and it’s a new challenge for me,” Grieve said.

“I worked very closely with the Technical Director in WA and I have been involved in the High Performance Program across a number of levels for around ten years. I have experience of these sorts of programs in Australia and abroad and I am excited to put into practice what I have learned. I was also State Coach at under-13 and under-14 level in Western Australia delivering coaching content to those age groups.

“I think this will be a different kind of challenge in Canberra. We had a number of programs in place at Football West that I may look at implementing in Canberra to help bolster the good work already achieved by the Technical and Game Development departments.”

Capital Football CEO Heather Reid is delighted with the appointment of Grieve into this important position.

“We are happy to welcome Warren into the Capital Football Family as our new Technical Director, Reid commented. “Warren has all the necessary attributes and skill-set that we were looking for in a Technical Director and will fit well into our team. It was a lengthy process finding the right replacement for Royston and we are confident that Warren will settle nicely into the role.”

Warren will be available for comment at a specially arranged press conference during his first week in the role. Details will be released shortly.

His predecessor was Welsh.

The ACT TD's salary is less than mine as a full time top of the range classroom teacher.

Not according to most in other professions like lawyers, doctors, medical specialists, engineers, vets, successful business people, accountants, journos. A lot of tradies- plumbers, builders, electricians, etc- make a lot more money that teachers.

If I were a full time teacher with top of the scale for experience, I would make about $82 000. This is less than teachers make in most other states. The ACT TD's job was advertised for $7500- $78 000. Of course a lot of the people doing these jobs don't have tertiary qualifications.

I was talking about this with the state FFA TD. I think he thought he should earn more than teachers. He has no tertiary qualifications though. All the A, B C and Pro Licences he has done only amount to a few months training. It is not as if he has trained for four years!

If the TD wants to experience a teacher's lot, he should do his subordinate FFA Development Officer's job. I did a school visit for our football club on Tuesday. I thought it was harder than the paid relief teaching that I've been doing recently in the classroom for $412.50 a day!

Mind you coaching the Community Football Programme on Monday night was really, really tough too. It was plain sailing the previous week.

I just assumed state FFA TDs were paid more.

$78000 isn't bad for no tertiary qualifications, gotta say, haha.
