The Italian result I'm not entirely surprised, even as a supporter of Renzi I voted no as I wasn't entirely convinced that the reforms proposed in the referendum were the best way to go (though they need reform). If Beppe Grillo becomes Prime Minister, the proposed reforms would have been a disaster in IMO.

Cut government spending and enforce your tax laws just like every other responsible government. The only reason Greece is facing economic ruin is because they haven't collected their taxes and they have continued spending.
 It sucks that they can no longer provide adequate health care or social security but if you don't have the money you don't have the choice.
And defaulting on their loans is probably the worst strategy the government could undertake. BethFC is right with the analogy about the family deciding not to pay back their mortgage. If you don't pay your mortgage, you lose your home and no one lends money to you again. If the government doesn't pay back their debts, they lose the ability to pay for anything and nobody lends to them again.
