Plus attacking handicapped people. You don't even need a gun to do that kind of stuff. With random people in a busy area it would be far harder to commit such an atrocity with a knife

Holy fuck Both hostage takers have already been killed by police. EDIT: As well as a priest. The gunmen were reportedly escaped prisoners. Edited by salmonfc: 26/7/2016 07:23:18 PM

This cluedo reference is not mocking people that don't get the problem. 2. Mocking a person with a mental disability is a sick thing to do. 3. If you're not referring to people with actual mental disabilities you need to take a good hard look at yourself and you don't deserve to take the high moral ground on "innocents dying".

FMD saying 'retards' isn't mocking people with disabilities. I'm mocking you and you're too fucking retarded to realise. I have tonnes of sympathy for those in Tokyo, not only were they born with a horrible disorder they were defenceless in a senseless slaughter and knew their fate well before it happened. I can't imagine what that would be like. I also wasn't taking the moral high ground. I was accused of laughing at muslims killing people and clarified my position. I think its sick that people that have a problem with whats going on in the world with islamic terrorism are often attacked instead of those doing the attacking.

Seeming that is item 3 on my list I think I do understand. TBH I don't know why you were trying to defend this stupid cluedo reference, though I disagree with your opinion on this. Most of the time your opinions were delivered respectfully. People are emotional about these things. No one here likes that people are dying in such senseless ways. There were plenty here that didn't like the abuse that Sonia Kruger received for having a different opinion. Time for everyone to back that up. Challenge ideas not people.

What has caused this current escalation is an interesting question that is also hard to answer. Is it desperation because of some defeats in Syria or are they getting emboldened by recent events domestically? French intelligence agencies that have their ear to the ground would have a pretty decent idea.

So the teenager that cut the priests throat had previously tried to join ISIS, had been arrested in Germany for impersonating his brother to do so and had been on a watch list (and house arrest previously) and was wearing an electronic tag on the day as well. French "intelligence" -PB

Edited by iridium1010: 27/7/2016 01:25:17 AM I think this is important data. Obviously what is happening now is very scary. But it is important to remember that this is not unprecedented. We have gone through much worse spates of violence before. A large amount of the deaths were in England during the 1970s by the IRA. But there were also groups like the Red Brigades in Italy - who actually kidnapped and murdered a former Prime Minister (who had only finished being PM 2 years earlier: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kidnapping_of_Aldo_Morohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Years_of_Lead_(Italy) There was also the Red Army Faction in West Germany: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Army_Faction

A lot of people seem to continue to think that the war against IS is a conventional war that can be won with mere force, where really it's an almost entirely propaganda based group that feeds on mental illness, disenfranchisement and alienation. Not really things you can bomb into submission.

In that context yes it is important but not really in terms of what is motivating the escalation in the frequency of attacks recently which is what I was originally pondering.
