Therefore given races are often linked to specific countries, though not always, you can see how that notion translates to thinking some races "are just better than others" i.e. racism?

My point wasn't to prove/disprove what you think just show it can easily be deemed racist to show nationalistic tendencies.

Had this conversation with my old man, who is pretty leftie on most things but conservative on others (very even handed).
Basically not all cultures are of equal value. That's just reality. I'm not saying that races aren't equal, but some cultures just aren't that valuable when stacked up and compared.

Ancient Rome vs Aboriginal Australia... I'm sorry, but there is no fucking contest there.

Call it racism, call it whatever you want, but at some point in time PC has to Be over ruled by logical conclusions.

Yeah I'd agree with that EG it's just important in modern society that we don't discriminate people from different cultures based on perceived value, attributes, etc.

When you've got americans pointing at you and calling you an asshole, that's not an enviable position to be in.

America might have pretty tight border control laws but they're not putting Cuban refugees on boats and sending them back to Cuba.

We're assholes.

Letting people drown at sea = being humane.
Preventing people from drowning at sea = being as asshole.

Left wing logic.

Left wing logic: Lets take all these people in at a huge cost and give them money and shelter. We have enough to go around.

I'm ok with them coming here but they should be working and integrating into the lifestyle.

Don't forget that we do that already, including large numbers of refugees from Africa and other places.

You and I don't need to have met for me to know you are not a fan of letting people drown. Most of us are not.

But encouraging people to get onto boats is tantamount to increasing their chances of drowning at sea.

If you are in a boat full stop you are 100% more likely to drown at sea. It's pretty hard to drown at sea if you're on solid land.

But consider it this way: you want to put them on a boat and send them back so they can try again. Thus doubling the chance that they're going to drown at sea.

Yeah, they're definitely going to return to their war-torn counrties of origin which they fled in fear of their lives, where living conditions are so poor that the idea of risking your life on a leaky boat is a more appealing option than living there.

They'll definitely go "fuck it, let's go home".

Nationalism: an extreme form of patriotism marked by a feeling of superiority over other countries.
Racism: the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.

Of the 7379 "Irregular maritime arrivals" in 2011-12, 3179 were from Afghanistan, 825 were from Sri Lanka, 576 were officially "stateless". So that's 4580 immigrants from war torn countries.

Madeleine McCann: British police 'preparing to make arrests'

Police are ready to arrest and interview suspects over girl's disappearance in Portugal, says parents' spokesman
Monday 13 January 2014 21.44 EST

British police are reportedly preparing the ground to make the first arrests in their investigations into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
A spokesman for Madeleine's parents told the Daily Mirror that police were ready to arrest and interview "key suspects". Scotland Yard confirmed that it had sent an international letter of request to the Portuguese authorities but would not elaborate on its contents.
However, the Mirror said officers were preparing to fly to the Algarve on Sunday night to speak to three burglars who carried out raids in the Portuguese resort where Madeleine, then aged three, vanished on 3 May 2007.
The Metropolitan police launched its own investigation into her disappearance in July last year and in October, when new developments in the case were put to air on the BBC Crimewatch programme, officers said they were seeking to track down the people behind a series of burglaries around the Ocean Club complex, mainly in the early months of 2007. There was also an incident almost exactly a year before the abduction when children in a ground-floor apartment saw an intruder break in through a patio door and stare into a travel cot, stealing nothing.
Earlier this month, the Mail reported that analysis of mobile phone data suggested that a burglary gang was operating very near to where Madeleine vanished and made an unusually high number of calls to each other in the hours after she was reported missing.
The spokesman for Kate and Gerry McCann said: "The letter is a significant development. It is necessary for British police to request the Portuguese authorities allow them to operate on their turf.
"It means they have the intention of arresting and interviewing X, Y or Z. We don't know who they have their sights on but it's likely it is the burglars."
He said that Madeleine's parents did not want to get their hopes up but "realised it could be a significant new lead". He also said it was not a formality that the Portuguese authorities would co-operate.
Portuguese police, who once falsely treated the parents as suspects, reopened their investigation in October last year, more than three years after it was shelved. Their investigation is running in parallel with the Scotland Yard inquiry but the Met police commissioner has called for the two forces to join together as one team.

20-year-old Indian woman ORDERED to be gang raped as punishment for falling in love

Jan 23, 2014 10:28 By Don Mackay

The victim told the police that she “lost count” of the number of men who assaulted her throughout the night

Police have arrested 13 men after village elders in India ordered a woman to be gang raped - because she had fallen in love.

A Kangaroo court, locally called ‘Salishi Sabha’, allegedly ordered the rape as punishment for the 20-year-old woman because she couldn’t pay a £244 fine for her ‘love’ crime - falling in love with a man outside her community.

The victim told the police that she “lost count” of the number of men who assaulted her throughout Tuesday night, in Sabalpur village, in Birbhum, approx 111 miles outside Kolkata, West Bengal.

In her police complaint, she alleged the Salishi Sabha summoned her and her lover to their court on Monday and detained them throughout the day and night.

She says that the were then tied to separate trees in the village square as the court issued the order.

They were fined £244 each for having an affair.

But when the girl’s family admitted they were unable to pay the fine, police claim that the head of Salishi Sabha, allegedly ordered the young girl be raped as additional punishment.

The boy’s friend managed to pay his fine on his behalf.

Parthasarathi Ghosh, the Assistant Sub Inspector of Kolkata Police, said: “We can confirm after her family said they could not pay the fine the Salishi Sabha allegedly ordered the mass rape on Tuesday.”

The woman, who has not been named, is being treated at a local hospital.

Sub inspector Ghosh added: “We are now waiting for the medical report.”

The police have arrested 13 persons - including the head of the Salishi Sabha, Sunil Soren – for allegedly participating in the mass rape.

But one suspect is on the run, police said.

Sexual attacks in India have fallen under the spotlight after the 2012 gang rape and murder of a student on a Delhi bus.

The government tightened laws on sexual violence last year after widespread protests following the attack.

But violence and discrimination against women remain deeply entrenched in India’s staunchly patriarchal society.

Although them country has tightened its anti-rape laws women across the sub-continent live with the daily fear of sexual assault and victims often have to deal with police apathy.

Of the 7379 "Irregular maritime arrivals" in 2011-12, 3179 were from Afghanistan, 825 were from Sri Lanka, 576 were officially "stateless". So that's 4580 immigrants from war torn countries.

Implying that most of them aren't economic refugees.

So if they were fleeing persecution and not just seeking economic prosperity, why not just stay in Indonesia?

What the actual fuck????? But in saying that I have a lot of Indian coworkers and one in particular treats his wife like his plaything

I've worked with a ton of Indians and all of them seem to be under their wives' thumb. And all the Indian women I've met have been super strong.

This is just primitive bloody villagers.

this one I work with all the time is from a small village . most like you said are under there wives thumb and are scared of them

So because they're fleeing a country in ruins they should automatically just accept living in a second world country because it's better than where they came from? They aren't allowed to aspire to more, like living in a first world country?

I don't know much on the subject, so I'd prefer to know the facts before deciding.

I have a few questions.

Are there people in refugee camps around the world waiting to come into Australia, but the ones who come here on boats get processed first, and take up Australia's quota?

The refugees get given public housing while there are Australians waiting for the same thing?

For example, Syria now has hundreds of thousands of refugees in neighbouring countries, will they be settled into the countries they're currently in? I know that Palestinian Refugee camps have been set up since the 40s, so why isn't anything happening to them?

How much does it cost Australia to do all this?

No, once they get to Indonesia they can apply for asylum in Australia the proper way, as their lives are not in immediate danger.
