Kestelman to take over NBL ownership Melbourne United co-owner Larry Kestelman is set to take a controlling stake in the National Basketball League, in a move that will see the millionaire own both Australia's domestic competition and one of its clubs. Kestelman, who founded internet company Dodo, will step down as chairman of United to become the NBL's executive director, the league announced on Thursday. Through his LK Group, the businessman said he would inject more than $6 million into the competition as part of a growth program aimed at getting the struggling league back on track commercially. Kestelman said he's still committed to Melbourne United, but will concentrate his efforts on establishing an NBL Commission and securing a media rights partner and major sponsor for next season. "I have a strong team running the club but now my interest in Melbourne United is just going to be as an owner," Kestelman said in a statement. "I will now be dedicated to making the league successful." "We've seen the popularity of basketball around the world, and it is my vision to bring the sport back to where it belongs in Australia, as one of the leading sporting codes at both a grassroots and professional level." Kestelman told News Corp next season's competition will feature all eight teams, despite the Wollongong Hawks still wallowing in voluntary administration. The Townsville Crocodiles, who were in the same boat, were last week cleared to participate in the 2015/16 NBL season after regaining control of the Deed of Company Arrangement. The property developer also labelled a new Brisbane-based team as a priority for the 2016-17 season, and touted a potential expansion to Asia. NBL Chairman Graeme Wade welcomed Kestelman's commitment as a positive development for basketball in Australia. Wade will remain as NBL chairman, and will work with Kestelman on forming a new board. Last month he said a partnership with the NBA was one of the key "strategic directions" upon which the NBL was focusing. https://au.sports.yahoo.com/basketball/a/28255609/kestelman-to-take-over-nbl-ownership/

A Brisbane-based team has been a priority for the last seven years, I'll believe it when I see it.

Looked at Joe Ingles and Mark Worthingtons Tweets and they cant believe that Martin would do that...since they think he seemed like a good bloke. wierd Edited by Socawho: 3/6/2015 09:51:39 PM

Delly vs. Bogut in the NBA. Good to see two Aussies in the finals but it's hard to pick who I want to win.

Hope Golden State do it for their fans. They deserve it. Hope Bogut gets the win as well. A number 1 draft pick who's been to hell and back on the court.

Warriors too good in Game 1. Cavs are completely fucked if Irving misses any games.

They'll patch him up best they can but probably means more minutes for Delly in reality. Cavs ball movement is superb with Delly running the point, just means Cavs are going to have to gun it out by having JR & Shrump hit their shots & help out Bron.

Irving out for 3 months apparently, fractured kneecap. Can't see the Cavs overcoming that.

Unless Shumpert, Thompson and JR just go nuts Can see them doing it for a game or two, but can't see them doing it consistently like they'll need, especially JR. They can't afford him to have another game like he did yesterday. In the end I just can't see them getting past the depth GS has. Yesterday was the perfect example of that, Lebron has his best ever play offs performance, Irving played incredible and it still just wasn't enough. Edited by sydneycroatia58: 6/6/2015 06:35:50 PM

Iguadala is a walkup starter in any given nba team , plus you throw in Barbossa , Ezil and Livingston and they are just much to handle for any team.
The Cavs have a very aged squad where some of the guys like Marion , Mike Miller and Perkins are there to help the younger guys off the court to prepare for games

Have to agree with sydcroatia. GS have a lot more depth than the Cavs and as much as I want a close series. I really think it will be a bit of a walk over for GS.
