Bendigo receives facilities boost

New $3.8m pavilion opens at Epsom Huntly Recreation Reserve

FFV CEO Mark Rendell joined fellow FFV staff along with City of Greater Bendigo Mayor Cr Alec Sandner and the Hon Hugh Delahunty MP, Minister for Sport and Recreation in Bendigo last week as the newly constructed $3.8M Major Pavilion as the Epsom Huntly Recreation Reserve was officially opened.

The pavilion will provide improved services for FFV tournaments held at the venue such as the Regional Challenge Cup and Boys FC as well as Victorian Champions League team Loddon Mallee Lightning and teams competing in the Bendigo Amateur Soccer League.

FFV CEO Mark Rendell said that the inclusion of the new pavilion at the Epsom Huntly Recreation Reserve has further increased the venues high desirability as a major events venue for football.

“This facility is in line with the delivery of FFV’s Regional State Facilities Strategy which calls for a football hub in all regional zones," said Mr Rendell.

“The Bendigo model is one we actively promote in other areas of regional Victoria.

“Credit must go to the City of Greater Bendigo, the State Government and the local football community for what they have been able to achieve.”

Mayor Cr Alec Sandner said the pavilion is the centrepiece of the Epsom Huntly Recreation Reserve.

“This has been a very important joint project for the City and its key user groups. The pavilion will help the user groups bring people together of all ages and from all walks of life that are part of the regional community. The pavilion will also be available to other sporting and community groups to use and hire,” said Cr Sandner.

“It has definitely added another dimension to the existing facilities already available here at the reserve and I’m sure this will be welcomed by the local community.”
