Quote:Thunder to make noise in APL bid SOUTH-West could play under the name of the Thunder should its bid for inclusion in the new Australian Premier League Queensland Conference be successful. The South-West bid committee has lodged its application with Football Queensland and now awaits advice on when their interview with the state governing body will be this week. In the bid document, South-West has committed to maintain its colours of blue, gold and white. It has also proposed that the club play under the name of South-West Queensland Thunder Football Club. The bid committee put out a call to the public to suggest a moniker and the name came from one of those suggestions. It is subject to approval from Football Queensland. An announcement on the 12 teams accepted into the Queensland Conference of the APL is expected on September 26. South-West is still working to gain financial backing to participate in the competition, with the announcement of successful bids wanted soon. "We've got to look for sponsorship but what do you do?," South-West secretary Janelle Sothmann said. "Do you go out and ask for sponsorship before you're accepted? Or do you wait until after you're accepted?" Meanwhile, South-West's Queensland State League under 19 team suffered a 1-0 loss to Logan Strikers at Nell E Robinson Park in the penultimate round of the regular season. The result ends fourth-placed South-Wests hopes of claiming the minor premiership. http://www.thechronicle.com.au/story/2012/09/17/toowoomba-football-south-west-apl-thunder/

Good to see Queensland being rather open about all this. Interesting to see what will happen.
I'd have loved to get down to one of the forums that the FFV set up. But it just so happens they schedule it on nights when the majority of teams in their federation have training.

While the senior and youth teams will still play out of Perry Park, the junior club will be based in Logan with it's aim to develop players from that particular region.

I expected as much. Im still not convinced APL will be running next year. Think at the very earliest 2014.

So, announcement of successful APL clubs now set for midday next Wednesday!
By my reckoning this is the bloody FOURTH time now that the announcement has been postponed! Originally it was last Monday, then today, then Friday and now I hear it's going to be next Wednesday.
I understand it's quite a decision that Football Qld has to make and it's not an easy process but for crying out loud if you're going to set a date to annouce the clubs, stick to it! Otherwise you just look like an unprofessional rabble! Not to mention that the clubs they choose do have the small task of trialling players etc etc etc before the season kicks off early 2013.

dont know if thay have coaches in place for trials selection. This will mean the announcement will be in October, so if you have coaches in mind and players available pre season training will not start till the beginning of November (at the earliest) with games due to start in in February that is not good enough. Is this an example of the professionalism of FQ we can expect for APL http://qldsl.com.au/index.php?display=item&id=633This weekend sees the scheduling of the catch up matches that were not able to be played on their original dates because of weather. However, due to player availability and travel issues, the senior QSL matches between Gold Coast v Sunshine Coast Fire, FNQ Bulls v Capricorn Cougars and Whitsunday Miners v Qld Academy Sport will not be played. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes to players, officials and spectators alike.

To make it worse they would have been spread over 5 different flights up to 4 hours apart because nobody booked the seats. As i am sure you know the juior leagues where all left unfinished with teams all playing a different number of games. Useless and more to come.

Probably did make sense to get the NRL and AFL finals out of the media before making an announcement.
