I'm looking forward to seeing how the new APL leagues go and the implementation of the points system.
No doubt it will be a challenging transition but overall hopefully it makes the 2nd tier even stronger in the longer term. An APL Champions League would really make things interesting until an FFA Cup comp can be created.

An APL Champions League would really make things interesting until an FFA Cup comp can be created. Can't agree more. I reckon it would increase crowd numbers across the board. Not only in the top tier, but also in the second division and will help out local teams. As soon as this FFA cup eventuates I reckon they will see that. Television coverage is essential. I'm excited. I hope the FFA sees the potential rather than the lack of. This can only work if they try and engage local teams.

Also forgot to mention; will the Tasmian state league be included in the APL? If so, how? http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/246890,new-tassie-super-league-set-for-take-off.aspxIt shows a similar revamp of the state competition as Queensland, ie. no promo/rele between the lower leagues, unification of top state leagues, teams in populated areas included etc etc.

I have NBN. I probably have better internet than you  But alas, you're back on topic so good for you. As for the Tassie branch of State League; I believe the end game is for *all* leagues to fall under this banner eventually but as can be seen of the NSWPL/VPL they're still either budging against it or are in the process of moving aspects of their governance over to this newer model. I really do hope though that all states get onboard with this. FFA won't ever fully describe it as their second division but it's what it truly is and it's what we truly need too. We don't need promotion/relegation, but having a unified second division (even conference based) will do wonders towards things like our ACL points allocation. -PB

I would like the idea though of going to a local ground. Would much rather see the cup comp kick starting things. I see what the FFA are trying to do. When the APL does start nationally it will be good if they implemented promo rele again (at least for the states). A nation wide promo rele system is possible. I dont think we need a second div directly under the A-league. A conference based second division would be sufficient. After all we aren't England.... I'm excited for progress and this failure to gain a third ACL spot should push the FFA along. One could hope at least...

So true. And that's the thing, some people downplay the importance of the ACL and are happy to sit back with the 1+1 we have now but we should be clawing for everything we can, even if that means admitting out shortcomings and doing something about it in the short term (hopefully Gallop can do those things). With the APL up and running in QLD this coming season, I see no reason other then short term financial outlay as to why the FFA Cup can't be up and running inside 18 months. -PB

-PB EXACTLY! People think that the national team just pops up magically through European based players when in reality it comes from the lower leagues (I refuse to refer to the local clubs as grass roots because in reality they have contributed just as much, if not more, to Australian football than the A-league). The AFC Champions League is the perfect chance for our players to get a taste of Asia. Imagine if a state team got the chance to play against Gamba Osaka because they won the cup comp or managed to make their way into top flight football. This is what football is about. Speaking of finances, surely there is enough money around for the FFA cup comp to start this season? I am baffled as to where the money goes. Will the TV stations buy rights etc? ](*,) <-------Being a football fan.

Pretty sure that the Tasmanian league is the APL even though they haven't called it that. Same as we are doing in SA.

CQFC chair Sherylene Stevens quits club she helped launch
FOOTBALL: Central Queensland Football Club chairwoman Sherylene Stevens farewelled the club she helped launch, wishing it well ahead of its 2013 Australian Premier League debut. Yesterday, Stevens tendered her resignation to CQFC chief executive Tony Zanda and gave the club a glowing endorsement as it prepares for its maiden APL season. "I wish you every success with CQFC. I hope you have the resources and networks to produce what is required, as I know I did," Stevens said. Zanda thanked Stevens for her support and foresight in helping CQFC secure its groundbreaking licence during its establishment phase. "Firstly, I want to thank Sherylene Stevens for her outstanding contribution in helping CQFC obtain its licence in the Australian Premier League," he said. "Sherylene was instrumental in helping CQFC secure the licence and her input has been extremely beneficial to the final outcome and her efforts need to be recognised by the community." Zanda said a replacement chairman had not been identified but an announcement would be made in due course. "From a club perspective it's business as usual," he said. "We have been in discussion with possible sponsors and that is what we are focused on. "We have established a strong board made up of people with tremendous credentials. We'll make an announcement about Sherylene's replacement in coming days." http://www.themorningbulletin.com.au/news/cqfc-chair-stevens-quits-role/1647844/

No details have been made on a finals system yet as other states haven't come on board completely. If anything it will be no different to how Rugby 15 worked with the SA, AUS, NZ conferences. -PB

I'd imagine the older teams would have a decent support. Hopefully the clubs really push it. I am a fan of their facebook page which gives that theory diddly squat although it's a good start to get the name out. I hope this stays conference based. An A2 league is extremely out of the question at the moment.I wouldn't mind if Melbourne Victory got relegated (only for a season). Would be nice to catch up on old friends South Melbourne and the Knights. ;) I'm pretty sure Tasmanian league will be APL the more I look at it. If the FFA do a good job and get the Cup running, the APL running and promo/rele running, the future of football in Australia would be very bright. I wouldn't mind an hour coverage (be it SBS and or Fox Sports) of highlights throughout the various conferences of Australian Premier League. Leading to my next question; What plans are there for WA/ACT/NT? (sorry if these questions have been answered but I don't have the time/effort to scroll through all the pages to find a specific answer)

The league/clubs are practically re-inventing themselves, will take some time. I imagine mid-Jan is where info will really ramp up. Have faith! FFA have more input into this then previous seasons (as FQ are diabolical for admin in some regards). -PB

-PB The anticipation will probably kill me. I really want to know the Victorian and New South Wales clubs. But it can't be a true 2nd division without all state federations involved.
