Coach hoping for winter wonder

Cougars player Jarod Lancaster kicks down the line in the midfield.

Chris Ison RokcsoccerAdvertisementTHE Capricorn Cougars are hoping Sander Waterland shines if there is water about tonight.

Waterland is the Cougars top scorer this season and assistant coach Gary Skinner tips him to continue his rich vein of form in tonight's battle with the Far North Queensland Bulls at Jardine Park.

The Cougars have put together some good performances over the past few weeks, including a last-up 4-1 victory over the talented QAS.

Skinner said the system the side had been using over the past few games was working. Thus there were no changes to positions for tonight.

Skinner is expecting a good performance from the team and hopes to win the game to add another three points to the Cougars' tally.

"We're at full strength and if we put on a good performance we'll get another three points," Skinner said.

The FNQ Bulls have a fast-paced game with Skinner expecting them to bring intensity to the field.

"They're going to bring intensity and we need to keep our intensity up with them because they'll try to get around us.

"If we can stay compact and tight and stay focused for the 90 minutes we'll go well," Skinner said.

Shaun Jasperson is out for tonight's game to rest a foot injury he suffered in last week's game, but is sure to be cheering from the sidelines with the huge home crowd the game is expected to draw.

"We always have a home ground advantage when it comes to crowd support. The town has really been getting behind us this season," Skinner said.

Skinner is putting his faith in outside player Jordan Miller to hold back the Bulls and says Jarod Lancaster will be the midfielder to watch describing his form as impressive this season and that he will go well in his position tonight.

Looking into finals rounds, Skinner said the aim of the Cougars from here is to stay consistent in their impressive performances and point taking to ensure an opportunity for a position in the top four.

Throw your support behind the Capricorn Cougar's in tonight's game and head down to the muddy decider which is sure to be full of excitement, at Jardine Park.

Czechs check out

Cougars’ Rudi Mozr launches the ball forward in a recent game for the Cougars.

Allan ReinikkaAdvertisementCAPRICORN Cougars' Jan Urban and Rudi Mozr checked in for the season, but will check out early this Sunday.

The Czech Republic boys will play their last game for the season tomorrow night, after the expiration of their travel visas left them with no choice but to return home.

Capricorn Cougars coach Joe Fenech is disappointed in the loss of the star players, but says it's important to look for the positives.

"The boys and everyone are very disappointed in the decision. We've done everything humanly possible for them to be able to stay," Fenech said.

Urban and Mozr will travel home this Sunday before preparing to apply for a better, more suitable visa which will allow them to play for the entire 2013 season.

The loss of the duo leaves the Cougars team with two large gaps, but Fenech isn't worried.

"They'll be missed, but I see this as an opportunity for the young, local boys to have a chance to play.

"We've had our eye on a few local players and this is the chance for young 16 and 17-year-old players to prove themselves," Fenech said.

The visa expiration came as no shock to the Cougars, Fenech saying they were aware of it, but it was just a question of when it would be renewed and whether an extension would be approved.

Urban and Mozr will play in tomorrow night's game against the FNQ Bulls.
