Looked absolutely fine to me and I watched the entire game on ABC.

CB Smith is the most frustrating ground in Melbourne.... the renovations and facilities are awesome for NPL but for some bizarre reason they put a whopping great pole right in front of the only stand......  its so dumb

I actually caught the second half of this very entertaining game. Great to see DeVanna, Ayers, Eliadis, Martineau getting some good game time in the preseason comp before the WNPL starts in April. City got spanked in the last 20 mins or so, they just collapsed.
BTW CB Smith in Fawkner is quite far from your Dandenong heartland why where they playing in WUs geographic zone?

I remember same thing happened with a CU semi final a couple years back, was a double header when Mariners/Adelaide was played in Sydney. They moved the W-League semi from before the A-League game to after, and actually pulled a bigger crowd.

Good on the FFA.

They had Roar v Sydney pencilled in for a double header on Friday arvo with a stupid o’clock kick off but moved it to Sunday arvo after a protest

Went to the Glory v Victory game at Dorrien Gardens last nite sundowner, great night and game as well.

From TV it seems the crowd is many hundreds. With a bit of luck some will hang about and watch the men's game.
A City game with many hundreds in attendance will be a giant leap forward!

Playing matches in the middle of the day during summer does absolutely no favours for the quality of the play.

W-League Sponsorship Exceeds Expectations Says The Cove

Monday, 21 September 2015 -
@SydneyFC

What started as a pledge between friends in a Facebook group has quickly become a fully-fledged sponsorship drive as Sydney FC’s supporter base The Cove close in on their target of $9900 to sponsor three players from our Westfield W-League team for season 2015/16.

It was a comment from Sydney FC volunteer Ross Anderson that first piqued The Cove’s interest about a possible sponsorship.

“A post from Ross Anderson on Facebook looking to get corporate sponsors for the W-league team [was our inspiration],” said The Cove spokesperson Steve Southworth.

“Our initial target was one player. We first canvassed a Facebook group for people to pledge money to the cause and within one hour we had $2000 pledged.

“Grant Muir set up the donations bucket on www.sfcu.com.au and we raised another $1600 in four hours. The general response was extremely positive.

“We also received numerous tweets from football pundits and media coverage which gave it a real boost,” he continued.

Southworth hopes that those who have donated can make it out to the games with round one kicking off on Sunday 18 October at Lambert Park, Leichhardt.

“We are hoping the 146 people who have helped this will come to more W-league games and that the players get an extra moral boost knowing The Cove has supported them.”

With an initial target of sponsoring one player, the supporter group’s appeal has spread far and wide and with nearly $10,000 already raised the group are now hoping to sponsor three players, something Southworth is thrilled with.

“We are extremely pleased and proud of the Sydney FC community,” Southworth said.

“We also like to thank [Sydney FC CEO] Tony Pignata for understanding what we were looking to achieve and reducing the price and removing the items for the fan led initiative.

“The Cove have done little bits to help the girls in the past but this is the biggest and best support we’ve done for W-league. The response we’ve received and the amount of generosity of all the football community is amazing.”

To donate to The Cove’s Westfield W-League sponsorship, visit www.sfcu.com.au and click on the donate button on the left hand side of the page.

Sydney FC’s Westfield W-League squad kick off the season at home against Melbourne City on Sunday 18 October (kick off 5:30pm) at Lambert Park, Leichhardt. Follow @SydneyFC on Twitter for match updates.

W-League round-up: Western Sydney Wanderers shock Brisbane Roar

Australian Associated Press

theguardian.com, Sunday 12 October 2014 17.46 AEST

Western Sydney Wanderers secured one of the greatest upsets in the history of the W-League with a scarcely believable 2-1 win over competition heavyweights Brisbane Roar on Sunday, just a week after conceding 10 goals.

The Wanderers, comprised almost entirely of teenagers, crashed to a near-record 10-1 defeat eight days earlier, but somehow bounced back to defeat the Roar whose line-up features eight internationals, including reigning world player of the year Nadine Angerer.

Former Roar midfielder Hannah Beard put the Wanderers in front early on at Suncorp Stadium, and while Roar equalised moments before half-time through Tameka Butt, the visitors continued to hunt a winner in an end-to-end contest and went ahead for a second time 10 minutes after the break when Larissa Crummer scored an own goal.

“It was a backs to the walls effort after last week, and to put pressure on them [Brisbane] was superb,” said Wanderers coach Norm Boardman. “We were always confident about the girls and their quality, and we reacted really well. The players just had to find self-belief. We had to improve defensively, and some of those mistakes are just because of their age.”

Leaders Perth Glory continued their imperious form with an impressive 3-0 win over last year’s premiers Canberra United to make it five wins from as many starts. Glory striker Kate Gill again led the way scoring twice in the second half, to complement an early goal from Canadian defender Shelina Zadorsky, as the home side claimed a first ever victory over Canberra.

Matildas captain Gill has now nabbed 10 goals in just five matches sending an early statement to new national team coach Alen Stajcic ahead of next year’s Women’s World Cup. Despite the one-sided scoreline, the match was full of chances at either end with Canberra striker Michelle Heyman hitting the post and also seeing a goal ruled out for offside.

Sydney FC remain two-points shy of the Glory after earning a hard-fought 1-0 win over Newcastle Jets thanks to a first-half strike from Jasmyne Spencer. Sky Blues goalkeeper Casey Dumont was busy throughout making several key stops to give new coach Daniel Barrett his first win since replacing Stajcic.

Melbourne Victory leapfrogged Canberra United into third with a confident 4-0 win over struggling Adelaide United. Midfielder Amy Jackson nabbed a second-half hat-trick, while American playmaker Christine Nairn scored a candidate for goal of the year with a stunning long-range strike

A bunch of internationals in a World Cup year don't go to Asia but instead play with Glory and looks what happens

McCullum, Gill, Kerr, Foord, Kennedy, Arnold should all be going to Canada.

In 11/12 this team was walloped 11-0. Good turn around from Harnwell.
