+xpeople on here digging it into maclaren while he is down. tall poppy syndrome. he just needs game time. he's a great striker and we should be hoping he gets on the pitch and starts knocking them in. because he can. because he has. he's more like firmino than a typical striker. how many top level teams would firmino fit into as a 9?? there's a good chance that he would be fighting to get in the 11 at most top level clubs. but you put firmino into liverpool under klopp and he is part of one of the most dangerous front 3 since neymar left barca. maclaren needs to play in a team with the front 3 on the front foot. he cannot be lone man in the other half of the pitch. he needs to be in an aggressive attacking team. he is a good finisher who doesnt have a large backswing its a pretty basic skill for many countries but we don't have many players who can do what he can do even if he doesnt have many other strings to his bow

In my defence, I was digging into him when he was in his A league prime as well. His stats, aside from goals were always dreadful. He barely contributed aside from goals on the counter.

Around a quarter of his goals in open play were tap ins

But Firmino is one of the most all round strikers in the world, while Maclaren is the definition of a limited striker with average finishing. A better example of what you are trying to say would be Juric who is actually good off the ball even if he is shit at finishing.

Not really tall poppy syndrome if he hasn't actually achieved anything outside the A-League...more like average height poppy syndrome where Maclaren is concerned atm.
But at least he is in Europe having a go, I hope he can find his niche at club level over there and start banging in the goals .

Geez yeah, we are struggling for players to "look up to" if Maclaren cops it from tall poppy syndrome.
Either way I just hope he stays in Scotland and finds his feet and his level. If he moves on after another 6 months of patchy form/game time he will be back in the a-league soon after that playing for Victory (and will probably do well).

If we are relying on MacLaren and Juric as our saviours for the lack of striker quality then i would not be holding my breath.

Its got nothing to do with tall poppy syndrome he's not a super talent like say like Arzani where he seems to stand out quite quickly, whilst , onn that you can't compare him to Firmino both are completely different strikers. I've got nothing against him personally with MacLaren but it seems he doesn't have a limited skill set and relies a lot on making that run in behind and to finish off the chances alot like Taggart, hes hold up play and ability to link up play is quite poor which is important to have as an modern No.9 maybe that's why he hasn't done well in Germany? Juric has those things, but hes finishing is not good enough when it all counts. Although i think MacLaren is more suited to the British game.

Juric has those things, but hes finishing is not good enough when it all counts. Although i think MacLaren is more suited to the British game. I agree with this a lot. His goal scoring at the Roar seemed to be almost solely confined to speed and being in the right place to put the ball in the net. Whilst a skill in itself and a highly commendable one, like you say, there are other elements of a number 9. It might be biased in all but look at what someone like Harry Kane can do, and even Hazard, Sanchez or Lukaku. They're more than just players waiting for tap ins. Kane can score from inside and outside the box, with both feet and his head. McLarens skill set wouldn't be effective against a lot of opponents. It's not tall poppy syndrome, just more of an assessment of his current limitations as a player.

Borrello has a much higher roof than Maclaren to reach for with his ability. always knew he would do well.
Borrello was a striker back in. the day when I first watched him for the young Socceroos. He is an outstanding winger as seen at the Roar and now FCK. But it would be awesome to see him lead the line. imo he has the right build and skill set for it.

The goal Oar setup defines what kind of player Maclaren is - he's a poacher. That's it. No beautiful hold up play, turn and shoot, nothing from outside the box, never beats a defender.... should I go on? Do we really want to stay ranked 32nd in the world or?

Sainsbury with an interview on Facebook. Doing lots of gym work. Won't be playing this weekend I think.
World game with a shocker of a headline about Socceroo injury only it being Ryan McGowan. Credit to him for his good performance against Chile. Unfortunately he's been overwhelmed almost every other time and stands out as a poor player. Most fans forget he even exists due to such low quality play.

+xRogic has rejected a new Celtic deal. Good on him. Good, needs to move to a more competitive league which can hopefully improve his fitness and defensive work rate.

I didn’t realise people still call themselves football fans whilst making dumb comments like “he only scores tap ins and penalties”

I really dislike these Aussie football player/joker/comedians. I mean, is that what football is? I'd like to think the opposite. Professional idiots Thwaite & McGowan. "look at me, I KNOW I'm a shit football player but my sense of humour is where I'm different to any other players"

Reports in Australia claim Tom Rogic has rejected new Celtic deal Tom Rogic has rejected the offer of a new contract from Celtic, according to reports in the player’s native Australia. READ MORE - Five things we learned from Zenit 3 - 0 Celtic SBS’ sports hub, The World Game, claims the 25-year-old was underwhelmed with the quality of offer on the table and has been concerned with his playing time this season. Rogic has suffered through his usual injury problems in the 2017/18 campaign, but even when fit he’s not been an automatic first-choice in Brendan Rodgers’ starting XI. The player has just 15 months left to run on his current deal, which he signed in the summer of 2016. If they can’t get him signed up to a new term the Parkhead side may have to consider selling the player this coming summer. Tom Rogic will see his current contract expire in 2019. By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.
