Mooy will need to make some decisions soon I expect ? Where to.. or does he just go down and keep playing @ Huddersfield. A good 10 games left. Makes you wonder why Wagner left so early. Probably had enough of the bs

+xNo Sainsbury, Behich or Kruse. Rest is normal after a tournament but it also shows the esteem they're held in. Son, Luongo and Irvine are straight back in. BVM probably shaking his head at how bad the team was. Genreau bench think kruse could come to the a league soon?

Is Micheal Valkanis still with Pec Zwolle as assistant coach? Jap Stam is coaching them now, would be interesting to see Genreau still gets chances.

Fantastic weekend for some of the Aussie footballers in Portugal. @kristrajc , @DylanCollard2 , @gavindeniese and Danny Choi all got on the scoreboard for their clubs. The goals from Kristian and Danny are outstanding. I've posted them up on twitter. Just look up #aussiesinportugal

Seems Valkanis still there, he still says so in his twitter bio, at least. Unfortunately Genreau (and Bouzanis) have stayed on the bench for all three Eredivise games since Stam took over, all three were wins, too.

Kristian Trajceski tekkers! https://twitter.com/thefutebollover/status/1092521244480528384Only the third tier in Portugal, but he's only 20 years old. That puts the team in 6th, could even get himself and Danny Choi promoted.

He has already played for Macedonia's U21's side. I hope someone at the FFA is keeping tabs on him. There's also a young midfielder Gavin De Niese in Portugal's third tier. His side Gafanha were challenging for promotion earlier in the season but have slipped in the last few months. He has been also given the armband.

Does anyone know anything about Josh Grommen? He's an Aussie who has been capped at u23 level by the Philippines and plays in Malaysia.

Did he get much game time in NPL1?

Ryan not starting Milligan. McGowan, Bozanic starting Makrillos played 67 minutes against PAOK 90 for Williams, Jones and Duncan in Saudi. Williams scored a goal and an own goal.
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Leckie must be nursing the hamstring. They've got lots of good players on the wings.

Portugal's 2nd tier is, at best, bottom end of the A-League standard... 3rd division is 72 clubs split into 4 regions. Macedonian u21 isn't overly impressive - Philip Petreski (former Melbourne Heart youth) played for them whilst he was at Northcote, IIRC.

Some players peak at 16... Some peak at 20... Some don't peak until in their 30s... Gavin has gone from River Plate's youth team, to being unable to make an impact at South Melbourne, to being unable to get a contract at Melbourne City youths (after trial), to 3rd division Portugal, there's no indication that his career is tracking upwards.

Yeah thanks. As you are aware I do I have a vested interest in how some of these fringe players go. If you are a late bloomer/maturer the a-league youth system really only offers a narrow window of opportunity given they are forced by FFA regs to cut players over 21. Just trying to gauge how the stronger NPL clubs/competitions line up against Euro lower divisions that still offer a full time professional environment.

Personally I think players cut from the NYL should be heading to Scotland as an easier (not easy) entry point at a reasonable level. No language problems and a good starting point to develop and move up to other (hopefully better) options.

He went to a better club at the start of the season and has been made captain in his short time there. That's an improvement. And as I said earlier, they were challenging for promotion only about a month or two ago but are on a bad run which has seen them slide down the table.

If you only speak English then yes it is easier BUT if Gavin speaks Spanish, he'd be fine in Portugal in terms of the language. It is very similar.. especially Spanish from South America.
