+xat what point do we compare matt ryan with mark schwarzer? I dont think you can. They are so different in style. At his peak swarz could have played for just about anyone in the premier league. I'm not sure Ryan will ever reach the same heights though he has time on his side

+xat what point do we compare matt ryan with mark schwarzer? Good question, thinking of the answer to that really gave me a chance to relish Schwarzer's achievements. Schwarzer was the first non-British player to make 500 EPL appearances, and remains as having the most EPL caps of any non-British player. Ryan still has 424 matches to make it to the 500 club. Schwarzer was still able to play for Chelsea in the Champions League and is the oldest player to ever play in the UEFA Champions League knockout stage, Ryan played two CL qualifiers for Valencia when he was 23 against Monaco but hasn't made the group stage of that competition yet, and would obviously need to go to a bigger club than Brighton for that to be likely. Ryan won the cup in Belgium once, but Schwarzer won silverware in England, winning the League Cup with Boro, although perhaps most notably Schwarzer played his part in the Leicester squad in their historical EPL title. Ryan is still 27, so hopefully he can achieve more.

I found Schwarzer such a liability in his early Socceroo days. I think after having Bosnich and seeing his demise it was tough having Petkovic in goal. Who else did we have before Schwarzer? Did Kalac play much? John Filan, there's a name! At the time we also had Paul Henderson running around.
Anyway it was around 04 but certainly 05 where Schwarzer took off and since then he was near invincible.
Ryan has been great so far and is getting better for Australia. It'll still take a lot of time to get near Schwarzer.

I think there were definitely times in swarz career where his place in the national team should have been under threat from Kalac and possibly Federici but neither really performed in he couple of chances they did get for the national team. Based on club form Filan also probably deserved more chances

Seen some images to suggest Canberra boy Leo Mazis is no longer at Celtic but now at Melbourne City. Anyone able to confirm?

+x+x+x+x+x+x+xRogic makes Celtic's Europa League squad for the group stages, while Arzani misses out. Not good Not too much of a big deal. He hasn't even played yet since being injured. No doubt they will ease him back with a few games with the reserves first then onto seniors. This... That said, he does have a lot of competition for a place in the match day squad, let alone for a starting role. One thing in his favour is the amount of matches Celtic play each season. time to come back to Oz Daniel and just focus on playing again. Besides Manchester City, Melbourne City and New York City, what other teams come under the 'City Football Group' umbrella?? If Man City want to send him out on loan again (next season), what could be a possible and realistic destination(s)?? Yokohama F Marinos (Ange's team) in minority owned by CFG and Girona (Spanish Segunda) is half owned by CFG and half by Pep Guardiola's brother. They also have a habit of sending players on loan to NAC Breda. they have a loan agreement NAC gets 4-6 x 17-21yr old players from city each season. arzani would have been better off there. hopefully he's not too old or broken before he leaves the celtic wasteland

Got no clue how to upload individual pics but there’s about 3 of him in this photo gallery towards the end - https://www.ftbl.com.au/gallery/on-the-sidelines-at-melbourne-city-training-530488. Can’t find anything official about his status but being at City during the Celtic season suggests to me that he’s come back to Australia?

Gethin Jones has signed a short term deal with Carlisle. Is he still considered Aussie? The current right back at Carlisle has been woeful despite 200 Scottish professional matches. Could see 2 Aussies on the flanks up north with Iredale.

Celtics up at 9pm on Bein sports. Wonder if Rogic might make the bench or even Arzani. More hope.

Looks like Neil Lennon has declared Rogic fit for the match tonight. Should get some game time.

Dykes is quality. He hasn’t reached his final level yet. In a year we’ll be talking about him as a legit member of the Roos squad.

Yokohama 3-0 Sanfrecce
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Ryan starting, Mooy bench.
Irvine starting, no Wright who is injured IIRC.
Federici benched after starting the last two games which is harsh. Maybe Stoke want to keep playing Butland in order to increase his value as they are looking to sell him.
Edwards starting, no Milligan or Ryan Williams, Souttar bench.
Edit: Ryan Williams came off the bench in a Checkatrade trophy match. I still thought he was at Rotherham.
Jack Iredale and Gethin Jones both starting for Carlisle, Burgess bench, no Lyden.
Jordan Holmes starting for Ebbsfleet.
