Watched the Bradford-Aston Villa first leg of the League Cup semis, Bradford winning 3-1 at home.
No Meredith, no Holman and no Herd but Curtis Good played the full match at LB.
He definitely has talent and will grow into an excellent player but not out wide. Did some neat stuff on the ball and defended OK but got skinned by N'Zogbia a couple of times by defending like a CB rather than LB.
It's great education for the kid though, and I can't wait to see him at the U20 WC later this year, if we are to have a successful tournament he'll have to do well.
Very talented young player, definitely more to come from him.
Second leg in a fortnight, and with Villa neeeding to win by at least 2 goals to make the final I'd say Holman will come back in, and if they are sending their full team out then Herd will be in as well. This definitely wasn't Villa's best 11.

This definitely wasn't Villa's best 11. I saw it as well, agree 100%, looked good on the ball apart from one or two just overhit passes, but did get beaten too easily by n'zogbia twice. Fantastic experience for him to play against PL quality though in a pressure environment

Watched the Boro-Watford game this morning with Rhys Williams and Scott McDonald both playing full matches, Williams captain.
Williams played well in general play, but was lucky his skewed left footed clearance went just over the bar. But then a minute from HT had a massive brain explosion - he tried to chest a cross back to his keeper but was too far out so instead it turned into a gift for the striker who scored.
He was very good in general distribution and had a good second half. A howler like that should be forgiveable by Holger IMO, I still believe the guy should be NT first 11
Macca was excellent with his movement and distribution, got past defenders and linked with his other strikers very well. Boro didn;t create too much so he didn;t have too many shots, but at 0-2 down in injury time he headed in a very good goal, a very solid finish.
I am not sure if Cahill or McDonald would be better at leading the line, but on this performance I'd be happy to see Macca start.

Fortuna Düsseldorf, Borussia Dortmund, Mainz and Standard Liege are playing a mini friendly tournament tonight at Fortuna's stadium. All the aussies should get game time, don't think Amini is involved with the first team however.
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Promising first 10 minutes, turned Bender brilliantly only to be chopped down.
Already fouled 4 times, it's not just the Omani's who do it

Kruse always gets bundled over. He's great at getting in front of his man.

McDonald's link play is excellent and always has been for Australia too. I get the sense that if we had a real goal scorer leading the line, he would be excellent as a second striker playing just behind.

Kruse played in both half-matches against Dortmund and Standard Liege. He scored and got an assist against Liege, also beat defenders several times on the left side. Played well against Dortmund in a 1-0 loss. Langerak played in the 'final' against Mainz. He did well in the match which ended 1-1 and went to penalties. He guessed every shot direction correctly and made a save to win. I don't think Rukavystya got any time in either of Mainz's games. edit - Ruka played on saturday in a proper friendly against Rot-Weiss Essen. Doesn't look like they took the mini tournament too seriously. Edited by playmaker11: 14/1/2013 06:01:21 PM
