What is that clown at Frankfurt doing not playing Leckie?
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Should Holger be looking at Andy Rose? Seems to be doing alright. Worth a call-up in the next friendly I reckon.

Cheers for the update, very exciting stuff. As to the Andy Rose comment above, yes I'd like to see more of him, but from what I've seen of him so far, he isn't going to be much of an improvement on our current CM stocks.

I'm thinking it's Inter Milan (previous interest) or possibly Juventus.

How close is he to getting a run in the first team? Probably a way off since he's only 17. I foresee selection headaches given that he and Rojic play in the same position. Anyone know if Ikonomodis is more likely to play central mid, winger or as a striker as a secondary position?

As has been pointed out, he trialled at Inter earlier in his career and apparently impressed so it's likely they've been keeping tabs on his progress. Furthermore, Inter are focussing on youth development atm, according to reports: http://espnfc.com/blog/_/name/espnfcunited/id/3526?cc=3436I would prefer he remain at Atalanta which has one of the top rated youth academies in Europe. He has a better chance of getting playing time there, I'd guess. At Inter it seems he'd probably be competing with Kovacic for a spot although Kovacic can handle a few positions.

We have so many promising centre mids at the moment in this kid, Rogic, Sarota, Holland, Amini, Mooy, etc... also we're not to bad in the wing department. Why cant some of these wonderkids be strikers?

(if we ever get one that can make it to the NT) International managers tend not to play a 442 diamond with a team of our level in competitive matches (Holder did once in a dead rubber). Not only that, but you can pretty much guarantee that almost every manager after Holger will play a 4231/4213 to match our national curriculum.

On a slightly different note, I watched the NY Red Bulls v Portland match yesterday. Cahill had an extremely quiet 2nd half - NY couldn't retain possession. It was a good match though.
Was quite impressed by the crowd there - Commentators mentioned it was Portland's 35th (I think) consecutive sold out home game. Impressive anyway, no reason why the A-League can't aspire towards numbers like that eventually.

He's a trequartista mostly... Basically an AM, but I assume he will end up having the versatility to play CM/wing. If he fulfills his talent...

Atalanta are desperate to re-sign him so maybe offering the chance of first team football could be a sweetener? The big club in the story is only one of a number of clubs chasing him including an English giant.

Depending on which particular English giant... I hope he stays in Italy. I get the feeling Liverpool or Tottenham are the English giant judging by your treating of the English giant part as a less important bit of news.
