I think players should simply represent the country where they spend most of their time growing up. So not so much a question of where they're born or where their parents are born. Ok, some people grow up in multiple countries, then fair enough they (on a moral level) have a right to choose between countries in ways that those who grow up in one county don't have a right (on a moral level). I don't have a particular great attachment to Australia, beyond sport. I'm planning on moving overseas as soon as possible (temporarily or permanently). Although I appreciate how lucky I am to have grown up here. Half my friends are from overseas and I get a bit fed up with some Aussies (although heaps are great value). But the idea of me supporting (or representing, if I was good enough at sport) another country is anathema to me. And my family is as multicultural as any. I can appreciate how people whose parents are Italian have a deep affinity for Italy. If they want to move there, study there and work there they should have every right to do so. But I can't understand how they'd support Italy over Australia. Then again, it's international sport. Rafa Jiminez wants to go to the World Cup. He's probably not good enough for Spain, if he wants to play for Australia are Australia going to knock him back (if he's good enough)? So, as you say, whatever.

Still an achievement to win the U20 WC. The U21 European Champs were weird this year. Sweden won the tournament but got thrashed in qualifying (I think). England beat Sweden and might have done something against Portugal but got beaten elsewhere and thus didn't do too well. Portugal had all the talent but weren't mentally tough enough to beat Sweden. Couldn't agree more. Fantastic achievement. I just thought it was interesting that they crashed out in the group stage straight after the world cup. Obviously a different team.

Good to see Amini getting a start and an ok result in their first competetive game back and Mrcela playing. Little dissapointed Locamotive didn't keep a clean sheet against weaker opposition but should be through to the next round.

Makes the result look much better in terms of Amini's performance and less competition for the next game. Initially I thought 0-1 win over a team from Andorra looked pretty weak but being down a player for most of the game and 2 for the end it is a decent result.

Dundee FC have released their numbers. Jesse Curren has been given 27. Really don't know how he will do this season but will at least start pre-season with the firsts it seems. 31 players were given numbers so it is not just a first team squad http://www.dundeefc.co.uk/news/squad-numbers-2

Im pretty sure I mentioned on this forum during the world cup that Rogic needs to watch and learn how to play his role from Pogba. Physically they are very similar.

Halloran started and scored in a hard-fought 17-0 win. Keen as to see Mrcela up against PAOK.
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

so amini played wide midfield. If he played in the front 3 for us his defensive deficiencies wouldnt matter as much

paladisious wrote:Taylor Tombides signing for Hull City's U21s. Hmm interesting. It's a shame his Young Socceroo generation didn't progress further (1995/6's) but some of that generation could be pushing for the coming Olyroos generation. May be a bridge too far for Tombides, but you never know... Check out this goal, albeit a quite low level: - 2 Jan 2015
