Weird how the article doesn't even mention Roma and seems to suggest they were negotiating with Perth Glory. 2 year loan it seems, hopefully he can work his way towards the first team after not too long

Quote:
Roda JC Kerkrade with Perth Glory has reached agreement on the lease of the Daniel Silva. The 18-year-old midfielder is rented for two seasons at the club from Australia.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Kilkenny recalled after all these years.

Goal reporting that jedinak looks to have sustained a long term injury.

You would think either Griffiths or Holland would replace him in the squad. Hopefully it may open an opportunity for Irvine to start the match though i think we are more likely to see a midfield trio of Luongo, milligan and mckay

Probably Troisi or Franjic.

I would really like to see Brattan, don't really have a player like him, our creative players are better suited to a AM. Also McKay brat combo then maybe someone like laungo would be a good "busy" midfield.

As a fan, it really does sour some of the great memories they've provided.:(

Culina is a knob but Ryan still hasn't reached such an accomplished stage (he's still done well). Jury is still out if he will get found out at a good level, like he was at the world Cup. And again after today a few more questions asked.

You're missing the point.

There are a lot of ways you can view a situation and unfortunately a lot of former Socceroos aren't leaning to the side of encouragement. When asked an open question, as Foz was this morning, Foz would say things like 'credit to Ryan for securing these chances for himself', 'Ryan did enough to help Valencia through' etc. His first thoughts are positive, encouraging words about a 23-year old goalkeeper.

Compare that to Kalac on the SBS World Cup panel actually laughing and saying 'Australia are going to lost to Spain' when asked about our chances. Yes, that might be his tip and all our tips, but IMO there should be a responsibility amongst our former Socceroos to be encouraging of our new generation.

IMO criticising someone like Jedinak I would have no problem with as he is an experienced veteran. The young guys having a go should be held in a different light IMO.

At the end of the day you could interview a Ronaldo fan about Messi and they'll still find negatives to say. It's that choice people have over their answer that matters.

Edited by Bowden: 26/8/2015 09:18:58 AM

being bitter because they're bitters is uncalled for and frustrating, but they're cros - they're born with chips on their shoulders. However Ryan is a big boy who has been to a World Cup, and there are questions over his game still - like the fact he sometimes seems to be either too late to react or just not go for the ball full stop.

We can't just cheerlead for the sack of it - that's for the Socceroos/FFA facebook page or Gallop/De Bohun to do (or it's more of an AFL thing). But I agree these guys are a pain in the arse. Still, anyone with half a brain knows Ryan has done exceptionally well to get himself into the position he is - and there is a lot of pressure there.

Hey let's not let the facts get in the way of a good story.

This is the truth and it must be almighty hard for a number of the big ego's from yesteryear seeing those who they have written off before surpass them.

The only one who has truly supported and talked up Ryan on TV funnily enough is Bozza. The only Australian GK who at the same age as Ryan was reaching similar heights/pedigree.

Apparently Awer Mabil has been mentioning that he's a bit homesick on social media.

Has he been cleared to play yet?

Wilkinson's playing in the ACL quarters against Gamba. Currently 0-0.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Happy with both Ryan's and Langerak's transfers. Ryan's is a high risk, high reward one. But who dares wins.

On the subject of Culina saying what he said. I'm not sure that Culina has an axe to grind. I think he's just feels compelled to say something as a pundit and that was the best thing he could think of. And it wasn't particularly insightful.

The number of times you hear pundits/commentators say something for the sake of it... What they say doesn't mean all that much a lot of the time, at the end of the day. But it would be good if these commentators/pundits remembered Richie Benaud's golden rule of less is more. And built up from there. That leads to informative and perspicacious commentary/analysis.

One the one hand, I do agree with bowden that it would be good if these ex-players would stick up for these young players who take a gamble (as long as they don't think it's stupid). But they, themselves, need to believe it's a good gamble.

But on the other hand, we don't want the media to end up acting as a fan club for the players. That totally distorts perceptions and may have negative consequences (both for the Socceroos as a whole and for individual players making decisions).

At the end of the day, these fellows are there to give their professional opinions. Some are more professional than others, it seems.

Irvine with a nice assist from this morning

and a Jong game Sainsbury played in where he was interviewed afterwards. Doesn't really say anything interesting other than it is all about managing his body which may mean fewer minutes to make sure it is fine.

Thanks for that, buddy. Google Translate, although handy, is not Gospel. And, I know from French and (to a lesser extent) Latin, some things just don't translate that well into English. Something which sounds awful in English, mightn't actually mean anything so awful in the language that is being used. Had a hope that this was an instance of that.
