FFS Valencia. They finally bring in some decent defenders and Alves gets to come from nowhere to enjoy them.

I wont bother watching it then

Valencia lose 3-2 at home to Real Betis. Had a man sent off at the start of the second half, then went down 2-0.

They then scored a couple themselves to level it to 2-2 before Betis scored a 90th minute winner. I didn't catch the goal - hopefully it was an Alves blunder...

Behich started against Fenerbahce.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

The highlights are on youtube. The goals didnt look like alves was at fault. Also it was a 92 minute winner .... Ouch. All we can hope for is Valencia to keep losing until Ryan can get a game again.

depends how harsh the fans are

the first was a good finish not much you can do against that
the second he dived the wrong way in anticipation in a 1v1 situation rather than closing the space and making himself big
the third he was beaten at the near post although it was after a switch
I'd say ryan would be attacked if he let those goals in

Pretty fair assessment. I guess the problem for Ryan is that when he gets a chance he has to prove that he's clearly better than Alves and make a couple of those stops that Alves doesn't make. If they're both playing at the same level the coach is always going to stick with the incumbent as in the eyes of fans the incumbent's mistakes belong to the player whereas the coach (fairly or not) wears the blame for goals scored against a newcomer.

Great to see De Silva starting to get some regular game time for Roda JC, big talent he could push as a contender for the Socceroos squad as another playmaker to join the current ranks.

It also seems from the heatmap that he played kind of a inside forward, left wing role which is handy also given we have a fair of depth who can play in the central areas in midfield...

apparently Mooy should have been sent off. Thankfully he wasn't and he won the game.

30 second mark

Gave away a shocking pass, then tried to rescue it, very lucky to stay on

Behich flying under the radar a bit, seems to have had a good start to the season in Turkey.. Hasn't been overly impressive in a Roos shirt but he'd probably be third in line now behind Smith and Gersbach. Would deserve a recall and another chance if he continues the way he is. Turkish league is quite strong.

What a headache.

Gersbach for me is the most talented out of them all. Smith has amazing pace and endurance. Smith is the Ange type of player.. Will be interesting to see what happens but I agree, what a great headache when you've got them 3. Davidson who was first choice a year ago is now 4th or 5th down. We haven't even seen Elder yet.

Watched the full 2005 Uruguay match yesterday and thought if we only had Socceroo defenders like that today (Vidmar, Popovic, Moore, Chipperfield etc). Not one today is impressive or remotely comparable.

Gersbach really needs to develop his right foot, he avoids it completely and it limits him considerably. At Rosenburg I have seen him cut inside a few times, but avoids passing with his right foot and becomes useless, for an example.
But I agree, our LB options are starting to come good and will hopefully be ready for Russia.
The bad thing is that the problem has gone from LB to RB and we badly need one of the young guns to step up, though Degeneks performances have been encouraging for the NT, never seen him play club football, what club does he play for?

That tackle is absolutely shocking. Seriously needs to weed that out of his game, could cost us in a big tournament. To be fair, I think it was a clear red and very dangerous

That's nuts. Behich is surely still in the reckoning for socceroos selection, despite not being as naturally talented as gersbach and smith, you feel like he is more solid defensively than the others.
