Smith is starting for Bournemouth!!! Adam Smith that is, an English right back. Brad Smith on the bench :Whistling:
Bursaspor won 3-1 yesterday with Behich getting the full 90. Sainsbury put in a full shift for Jiangsu against Jovanovic's Tianjin side (also a full game for him). Sainsbury's side look really good, he has Ramires in holding midfield ahead of him and Alex Teixeira (formerly of Shakhtar) up front. Some may also remember Ersan Gulum, the Turkish-Australian who opted to represent his ancestral homeland - he suffered the ignominy of being sent off for Hebei Fortune (managed by Manuel Pellegrini!).
Nathan Burns was an unused sub for FC Tokyo, who lost 3-1 at home. Surely a move is on the cards as he can't be happy there, I'm hoping the rumours of a return to Adelaide are true. He was one of my favourite Adelaide players and deserves more regular game time than he's getting in Japan.
Irvine starting for Burton at home to Brighton.
Awesome for Langerak to get a win and clean sheet, and great for Davidson to play in a big Eredivisie win.

Leckie breaks alone somewhat wide and shoots low from 20m with Neuer really needing to work to punch it.

nice to see leckie playing in the rhs midfield as part of a 4411 looked like he was playing as a right wingback in a 3421 - that may have been their defensive shape or just the way everyone gets shifted around playing bayern who still seem very transient in their roles.

Leckie still doing well but Ingolstadt are 2-1 down with half an hour to play. Huddersfield are up 1-0, don't know if Mooy or Luongo were involved in the goal. Brentford are also beating Preston 1-0, honestly it would be better for Wright if Preston ship a few, he wouldn't have much trouble returning to the lineup after his injury if the team are struggling defensively without him.

Switched over to conference for all games. Just saw the next and very best leckie chance. Great perseverance but he should have buried that but for Neuer stopping a 5m point blank range shot. It's obvious that Leckie excels against teams that push up and don't park the bus.

Ran with two Bayern defenders on his inside who both slid in the box which gave him a chance to cut inside from about 5m in front of goal. Neuer with a reflex save. He really should have slotted it in the far corner.

We have some good youngsters but man I wish we had a young talent like the USA have in Pulisic at Dortmund. Starting regularly for them, just scored another goal and only turned 18 today... we haven't had a player that young starting for such a big club since Kewell, I don't think.

They're playing the Bundesliga simulcast here in the pub I'm watching at in Berlin, it's like football for people with ADD, I'm finding it very jarring, especially with the language barrier. Showing plenty of Leckie's game though at least.

Leckie fouled in the box but no penalty. It's his game against Chile all over again. Very exciting but frustrating finishing.

There are plenty of young players like him from bigger nations playing for bigger clubs but I've always felt like the USA is somewhat analogous to Australia with the MLS being a similar model to the A-League, as well as the fact that football is not the most popular sport there due to NFL (like the AFL here), the influence of migrants on the sport, being a big fish in a smaller region (smaller by significance to football), etc.

+x+xSo apparently Fran Karacic's never been to Australia. From the article it would be like capping Richard Porta's kid. Would rather even see Seb Ryall get a cap at RB and that's saying something. That was a waste of time and effort. Just make him both, it's the truth after all.

Damn, Ingolstadt should've had a pen to make it 2-2 and now they go 3-1 down. They did waste a lot of good chances though to be fair.
Still 1-0 at Huddersfield, Aston Villa drawing 0-0 at Ipswich with an hour gone, and 0-0 in Denmark with 30 mins to play.

Perhaps in terms of per capita and the fact that both countries have lots of athletes strong in multiple sports. But, as has already been mentioned, the population of the US is so much greater. That helps them. They also have a truckload of Hispanic support for the game which we'd kill for.

We do pretty well in terms of population. Just saying we share a lot of similar traits with the USA, that's all.
