Burgess starting for Bury, also. Beadling on the bench, alongside Jermaine Pennant. Guess his spell in Singapore is over.

Huddersfield win at the death. Newcastle and Brighton only with a draw. 4 points from second now.

Barnsley 3:1 and doing nicely 6 points from 6th. Just had a bit of a fantasy. Huddersfield go up and Barnsley win the playoff and retain their 3 Aussies. One can dream.

I'm slightly concerned City will take Mooy back next season and he'll rot but at the same time they're known for spending millions on other players and might let Mooy slide. Interesting times.

What's going on with Jedinak?

Villa losing 3-1 at the 62nd minute, serves them right.

Gethin Jones on for Elder at 55 minutes.

That doesn't sound good for Elder. Twitter said he was injured. Hopefully nothing bad and there's a lot of match time to come.

Huddersfield doing a Leicester of last season.  Imagine if they could finish half their chances

Separate comment, I've read lots of the championship vs Aleague discussion in here. I'm not a good judge admittedly, but that Brisbane performance last week vs Shanghai was as good as any performance in the championship I've seen this year. They might have conceded against say Newcastle, but they would have scored a couple

concerning thing is that hudders let rotherham put 2 in against them.

lets not forget that jason davidson is still on the books at hudders isnt he?  having premier league experience he might get another look in if they get promoted - if he has a reasonable dutch season this year.

If he struggled in the championship, they won't want a bar of him at premier league level

I have watched him play in 3 games recently and he is a little strange to watch. His body language looks like he is no interested and he somewhat dawdles around the pitch until he try to pick a players pocket for the ball. He does win the ball often.

You watch him and it's like he's not doing anything, but then when he gets the ball he is so fast to give a pass in behind or shoot off in one direction.

He is good in that he can see 2-3-4 steps forward in the play.

I have that exact same opinion when I watch Luongo
A lot of the fans were quite unhappy with him @ Swindon, towards the end of their campaign with him. I thought exactly the same.

He looks like he's got more but doesn't give it. He's scared to hug the spotlight, it's pissweak sometimes. I fear he's got about 2-3 more levels he's not going to because he's shit scared of making English players look 2nd rate

this is how i would describe Holeman in the past, he is extremely frustrating to watch because he doesn't seem interested and then all of a sudden will pop up with a steal, killer pass, smart run or decent goal.  that is why Australian fans never warmed to Holeman, the perception that he was lazy, but was it that he is reading the game and conserving his energy picking his moments (he still does this for the roar, you don't see him for 10 min then he drop deep collects the ball and links 4 or 5 passess straight through the middle :)) maybe it is the same for luongo and QPR fans,

maybe it's that he is a better reader of the game,  knows when to make his moves, runs tackles etc.  maybe the level is not challenging enough for him any more, like when he got to the end for swindon.

All that aside, maybe he was also negotiating a contract and trying to force a move, or a better deal,  could have affected his mentality on the pitch the past few weeks?

From travelling around England, many of the fans and junior coaches (in fact all of them) I've met know very little about performance in football - but they think they do.

agree with this.  even the commentary is mostly atrocious.  you can hear it in them.  they want muscle, height, and pace and to git it in the mixer.

agree to this but 2 areas he's a lot more polished than holman.
technique/touch/skill playing the ball
think he reads the game a lot better also. i.e. combined with shooting ability, even timed runs into the box for headers (first goal @ QPR)

In light of this, it's so clear he try's to mozie around at the same average level of his team mates and try not to not stand out much. He should have seriously gone on to better performances after winning Asian Cup player of the tournament but hasn't, Don't blame him entirely cos we all know how things are, but I think it's soon time for him to be upping it

striker Ndumba Makeche leaves Malaysia for dream move to Bali United

ESPN Thursday 16th February, 2017

aussie striker ndumba makeche leaves malaysia for dream move to bali united
A professional contract at Bali United. For a young striker from Western Australia like Ndumba Makeche, it sounds like a dream scenario to end up earning a living at your favourite holiday destination.

Before arriving in Denpasar two weeks ago, the former A-League junior had already visited the Indonesian island three times on personal vacations. It is only a three hour and 50 minute flight from Perth, and the abundant expat bars, offering Aussie beers on tap and big-screen international cricket, give the tourist strip of Kuta an unmistakable Waltzing Matilda flavour.

Makeche has been staying in one of Kuta's hotels, in view of the backpacking tourists walking along Jalan Legian, but says that recreation is the furthest thing from his mind. Turning 25 next month, the Zambian-born flyer admits that now is the time to establish himself as a front-line striker in Southeast Asia, after promising, yet sometimes inconsistent, spells in the Malaysia Super League.

"I feel comfortable because I've been here as a tourist before, but it's a totally different ball game because I'm here for work," Makeche told ESPN FC.

"It's a beautiful city so it's a good place to play football, and that plays a part because you want to be happy and enjoy it. But I know that I've got to perform on the pitch and score goals for Bali United."

English fans aren't one specific type. There are loads of different types. Similarly, there are loads of different (and often conflicting) attitudes and habits which are thought of as quintessentially English (even without the influx of people from all over the world). This is the case in football, too. Think about how international the leagues are.
