So the game coming up tFl.
We had a huge hit out with Rydalmere in the 18's as expected.
They as always very physical, we matched them once settled 1st half but my lad did a silly tackle come off 2nd best prior to HT.
50/50 playing you guys Sunday.
Early days for all and 18's still finding themselves down 1nil.
Our 20's knocked off Rydalmere 2 up by HT and finished 2-1.
Our 1sts a patch up squad also done the newly promoted club to PL2 2nil.

Our 18's are pretty good going forward. They drew 2-all with Parra and lost 3-2 to Hills. We (20s) drew with Parra 0-0 and drew with Hills 3-all (they scored two penalties). First grade drew with Parra.. not sure how they went against Hills.

19SU, how did you go vsing Marconi the other day ?

lost 2-1. a scrappy goal from the corner and a penalty awarded to marconi.

still early days, Jason Culina has been changing his squad every match, dont think once we played with a full strength side... He is looking a lot at our youth players and trialists.

Thanks for the update tFl, hopefully we bump into each other Sunday.

Thanks 19SU, not surprising he's checking out as many resources as possible.
Stallions would have been on a high just being back up there.
I rate Tsekenis and will be watching how they go.
Is Brunko in the background as usual ?

not sure about branko but Jason did bring in his people who are part of the coaching staff.

As for marconi they have a side that will be in the top 5 100%.

yer knew jason brought over his people.
Candy done a good job at Marconi last couple of years prior to departure and Tsekenis walked into a good foundation, I hope they perform as you predict in that case.

Cheez suthofan thats talking it up - good luck we shall see.

Whats the goss on APIA anyone ? I'm sure countless changes just haven't kept tabs on it.

APIA have kept the same starting 11 from last season and signed some depth, so no countless changes.

I heard Jensen Park is going synthetic half way through this season, a shame as that ground is a great grass pitch.

Its looking like grass won't be around within another year at good levels.
Heard Rydalmere's pitch going syn as well that a good thing there for that ground is one of the worst around.

Bonnyrigg and Marconi in NPL1 as well as the only non RL fields

Rockdale lost 3-2 to Sutho in a trial yesterday, Missing Covic, McClenahan, Petrillo, Neill, Urosevski and Figon so wouldn't read too much into it.

Final trial this Sunday at home to Hakoah with most of those guys back.

Thanks for the update tFl, hopefully we bump into each other Sunday.

I'm sure I spotted you prepping for your 20's game.
I didn't wish to disturb you tFl.
How friggin humid it was - I'm glad my lad had to sit out for his 18's run but he was bitching to be out there.
We had 5 players out, got a couple of 16's to help out.
Rage were ordinary and as usual down right dirty players.
5-2 win.
20's win and 1st grade overall good run but whoah the on field happenings last 2 games.

That would have been my assistant warming up the team. I was in the Porto shorts and adidas top.

Your 18's have a very good side. The 20's are good but not as good as your Facebook page suggested last week, especially considering there were first graders in the team and we had none. It was 1-all until the 2 reds. Unfortunately the mentality of some is an eye for an eye. The punishment that gets handed down will be a good lesson for the boys. I've only had them for 4 weeks so it is something we are working on in the 20's. Changes won't happen overnight. Once they learn to control their temper, we'll have a good season.

You guys seem to be playing good football across the senior set up. For as long as I've been at this level, Gladesville had direct senior teams so its a good change.

Lets introduce each other 1st comp game.
You haven't been watching close enough our YL games last 4 seasons and I don't blame you hard to do.
The nucleus of the now 18's/20's is formed by 2 age group up and comers from back then and its still early pre season as you know and as mentioned, 18's had 5 out that 3 are part of the spine.
Once settled in I expect this side being very competitive this season for the nucleus have been together last few seasons but for questionable coaching directions.
20's, look FB is make believe right lol, over hyped I guess because a favourite son is coach.
They have alot of talent tbh and some young U18's selected again early days.
The new 1st grade coach and TD have straightened the place up some but the football vision had been similar last few years but I feel we have better players right through the 3grades this season.
Your right its so obvious the eye for an eye mindset - got to prove themselves for what ?!
I can tell straight away when my son goes in for a payback as well, I keep telling him beat him/they with your footwork again and again for you know why they are doing anything to get the upper hand.
Hope you get through them for your sake, for all my years vsing them its been the same.
Wish you well, well not against Magic lol......

Sounds good to me.

It has been very difficult to watch youth games when they aren't at the same venue. I'm basing my opinion on what I've seen in the senior set up at Gladesville. Football NSW made a big mistake in changing the youth structure. At the time, I thought it was a good idea but it just hasn't worked logistically and in terms of competitiveness.

I've never had an big issues when facing Granville. They've just always been a tough team but we'll ramp up punishments now and if it doesn't work, some will have to leave. We'll get there in the end.

Agree re the FNSW changes.

Magic has been too closed, this has its positives negatives but a change came around end of last season looking ahead.
Agree they have been a tuff club to play, I don't mind fair tuff play but what I have seen over the years is dirty football.
Yes our boys retaliate stupidly.
Pulling back arms, obvious shirt pulling and just random bad tackles and verbal abuse.
Hopefully your initiatives make the change for the better.

Who would have guessed putting teams that can barely run a youth program in "tier 1" would result in lopsided scores on the reg..

At least finals are back this year aren't they?

yes mate :
The top five sides by the end of the season compete in the Championship Series. The Championship Series consists of six games, whereby the five teams competing are whittled down to just two. The teams are seeded upon their entry into the Championship Series according to their final position on the ladder. The final two teams compete in the Grand Final, where the NPL 3 NSW Men’s Champion is decided.

yer I recall some of the goss.
Look back in my day it was first past the post but once finals got introduced it added more incentive despite it taking some gloss away from the Minor Prem used to it nowadays and its great.
Shouldn't have been dropped.
Checking YLPL2 is has 18 clubs x 2 rounds again.
PLYL has 26 clubs same no finals.

One of the issues with development in our country is because due to the lack of competitiveness. If I was FFA, I'd increase squads to 18 players from 13-18s. With a squad of 16, if a few players are away it is very difficult to provide a competitive and learning environment at training and if a few players are sick and injured for game day, the rest don't have to fight for a spot on the pitch.

The funny thing is we say 13-16 is non-competitive but then send 15 & 16 year olds over to AFC competitions & wonder why they get beat by teams like Vietnam

I get that especially if players are away it makes it hard to session plan for training, but remember in youth

1) Everyone has to play

2) You can't just send them on in the last few minutes either like in seniors (maybe in the older ones like 15-16s but def not 13-14s)

3) You can't have 2nd GK getting 0 game time in youth either

So 18 players would make game day really challenging

3) You can't have 2nd GK getting 0 game time in youth either

So 18 players would make game day really challenging

I understand all that.. you could make youth games 90 minutes so players are rotated more often. Each GK can get a half each.

OR

Have two squads training together. The challenge at training needs to improve - this has been the case in every environment I've been involved with (NPL 1 and 3). I actually planned to take the 16's and 18's this year at Dully before I left. Similar to how most clubs have the 20's and first grade training together.
