Mention of a draft only reflects too much AFL, not enough football.

This is my contribution.

The Foz also said he didn't watch the EPL which ruined any shred of credibility he once had.

A good idea, but very unlikely to happen.

a draft would be good with up and coming players from the state leagues.

As the 'Foz' once said, the FFA should be looking at foreign talent which meet the criteria to play in the A-league and can contribute to the overall development of beautiful football.

If the FFA can develop a pool of players, then the clubs can be allocated draft picks based on overall quality and cost. Therefore you would have several draft pools based on this theory.

This would be a good idea, pooling all resources instead of each individual club sending out scouts to all parts of the world on a minimal budget.

we need to think about how we got about looking at overseas players who arent just based on Brazil/English nationality..in order to lift the spirit of the game and for it to be like the NSL..we need to go places like Thailand,Japan,China, some of the Middle Eastern Leagues..and yes the African leagues..there is a lot of booming talent in those league who could experience a diffrent play in the game by playing in Australia.

Ali Dia, signed by Graeme Souness at Southampton...he played for about 30 minutes after coming on as a sub then was subbed off again as he was so spectacularly bad. He never played again.

There are 'issues' with signing African players - not least of all is not always being certain what age they are which seems to be something of a recurring theme even among top flight players.

ross, i'm positive alot of african players would jump at the chance to come to the a-league, only if any a-league teams could send some scouts there. i remember hearing a story a few years ago, some premier league team in england signed an african player who claimed to be the relative a former world player of the year george weah. they signed him and he was so sh*t that it was like a joke!

This guy's name sounds familiar....I think he works at the Thai restaurant I frequent at the local shopping centre.....
Pardon me for asking but is there a reason why none of the A League clubs seem to go shopping in Africa? So much talent, so many players coming through...can we not afford them? Is it a cultural issue? Can't we afford the airfares for the scouts?
Yes, I know that the Cameroons is in Africa but who knows if Big Remo has ever set foot in the place. More fun sunning yourself with a cappucino in Milan........

TBH, I don't see the harm in signing one or two. Because these kids' contracts won't be anything substancial - the foreign kids would pretty much pay their way. Hence I couldn't see clubs focusing on signing a foreigner for their YL squad every year.

No doubt it would make its way back here. :roll:

Why do people still insist on using Wikipedia to get up to date info on things? Wiki is user generated and any rumours/"official" info on there should be taken with a grain of salt.

He isn't on Wiki because no one has bothered to create a page for him. Maybe you should do one and say that he is rumoured to be coming to the A-League to the Jets so someone else on another forum can then quote Wiki and claim it is true!

rumours abound at the moment and most of them are based in the imagination unfortunately.

A Cameroonian,
A handful of Iraqis,
A Thai,
A Swede

no doubt tomorrow a Brazilian and a Tibetan.

FourFourTwo says 7/10 belief factor if it was a youth contract but I must ask, should we be allowing overseas to play in the youth league? Isn't the whole idea of the youth league to build up the young Australian players?

They are still sort of a full squad, anything is possible
