So by your theory, obese people shouldn't eat.

Rightio-ho.

I'm all for the Pacific Solution for the obese, only give them a plot of land, an ox and a bag of seeds and only those committed to contributing to society can come back to the main land.

If they eat the ox, then they have to pull the plough, if they eat the seeds, the ox will be next, if they work the land they have a hope.

Wow...I hope you don't get into power

So do a lot of obese people :)

Hey Figgy, if obesity is a disease then maybe you could go over to Somalia, Sudan, Ethiopia or some other busted arse country where the poor bastards are starving to death and infect them with a dose.

You know, help them out of rampant malnutrition.

Saying gambling and obesity are diseases is shifting the blame from the perpetrator to some other cause. You, and people like you, are nothing more than an enabler.

Addiction is or can become an illness. Yeah, technically not a disease, but let's not get too caught up in semantics - either way it's not the kind of territory most of us would want to be treading.

And good ole Chaser, really summing up this stupid saturated ad campaign, really sharp stuff:

http://www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/transcripts/s3621083.htm

Not to pick on the one company, but boy those ads annoying and are reflective of how gambling has infected mainstream advertising, especially related to sport, increasingly in the recent few years. It's at sickening levels and the above ad campaign is amongst the wide spread examples, but sadly, far from the worst - See Ray Warren and his reading off the cue for a whole Anti-Mandatory Pre-Commitment diatribe thing during the NRL telecast. And indeed, as people say - the stuff on the internet, including targeting youth through games etc.. And indeed wider games, on FB etc... tapping into devices and conventions, which can encourage gambling and addictive behaviour that has seen kids and adults alike overspend on 'free' FB games, way more than they'd pay for a game off the shelf etc...

It DOES sound worrying too - If the assistant coach is making violent threat to break jaws, COMBINED WITH, ADP on camera spiel/spray/rage/very public blowing off steam, Crooky leaving very early in a mess, even less experienced but club legend Corica, taking temporary charge...

Kalac still makes his appearances on SBS' TWG and Champions League coverage too. Gets a little, doubt it's comparable to SFC wage, but still a modest little wage for that gig I'm sure. There's actual slight conflict of interest there anyway - having somebody who's actively on a team's coaching staff being an analyst or p/t A-League analyst with the TWG team. I know it's not the same as when Ange left Foxsports to take up the Roar job, as too when Branko left TWG to coach SFC, but still - especially as he can't, won't be in a position to talk about these things to do with ADP stuff, Crooky coaching trouble etc... You need neutral analyst to dissect that.

And yeah, in young coaching set up, handling some senior boys including ADP, as too youngish skewed squad - You need some calm, wise, heads leading. There's enough 'natural turmoil' as it is, just with ADP's arrival and presence, let alone all this other stuff. Chaos at every turn with SFC at the moment. No wonder Crook was wanting to leave, fast.

I think some addictions can become diseases tbh. Anyway, I don't see how Kalac's debt affects his suitability for his role at Sydney FC, only one who has shown some passion recently for them.

Really. And he had SFC best interests at heart when he signed the second string keeper who also happen to be a Cro buddy just like the poppovic and kresinger realtionship. The second string keeper Kalac signed cannot even catch a ball in NSWPL league. Horrendous keeper that we nick named fumbles. He should be playing division 8 park soccer.

Wake up to reality champ. He is as corrupt as his bank account.

To say "people can opt not to gamble" shows a complete ignorance of human physiology, which is not surprising on a forum that seems to be filled with an inordinate amount of very ignorant people.

I dont mean to get all Nietzsche on you, but the moment you decide "choice" is not something a sane person should be accountable for then you get into very dangerous territory. More or less your saying that this person is some kind of half wit who does not understand simple concepts.

Now im fairly sure the way recovering addicts of every kind overcome their issues is by stop making the excuses and take ownership of their own actions and not fall behind the excuse of it being a sickness and not their fault.

Nor am i saying people who make mistakes or fall into addiction are evil. We all have our own poisons but its how we CHOOSE to deal with it that defines us.

Huntingtons disease is prominent in my family, if im a vegetable by age 40 then that is not my fault. If im perfectly healthy but am bankrupt financially and morally by 40 then my actions and the choices i made are what defined me no excuses

It amazes me in this day and age how hard we try and make ourselves not accountable for our own predicament. Making an excuse for someones poor judgment does not help them

Exactly it's been proven in the highest neourological circles you can train the brain if it's a behavioural problem - alcoholism, drug addiction, gambling etc.
If however, its a synapse problem like Dementia, physical disability where no signals are being sent to the brain, or the electrical connections don't fire properly, medication is usually used.
Manic depression is still really an unknown country

I always wondered about this.
He was such a good keeper, but his performance in that game was too shocking to be believable.

I'm a bit fat, it is my fault. I decide when I eat or not, so if or when I get obese I know it will be my fault.
