You twist it wrong - Jets have their squad largely sorted, especially upfront. All the young attacking talent you have up there, aswell as big and in-form target man and Marquee star, Heskey.

IF you were without Heskey I'd say 'yes,' but GVE and the Jets squad needs, it may actually be hard for them to fit Griff in anyway?

AND

Like it's been suggested, Griff IS a Sydney boy, Sutherland Shire, and so IF Griff is keen to join his bro's club SFC, that's his priority, then there's little the Jets can do about that, especially if they can't offer any more than they can and IF they were then they'd be signing im for wrong reasons/extortionary scenario or what not to detriment of rest of squad and wage balance etc...

There are several parties involved in this, Griffs himself, his agent, SFC etc... not just your club. Gee, some people need to give their clubs a break I think - they may do some things wrong, but not everything is their fault - though I can understand the lack of optimism being a Jets fan, with the extreme highs and lows drama Tinkler's ownership has wrought up there.

Its actually a no douchebags policy. We've already got Kalac.

Seriously though, Griffiths would be a fantastic signing. We do have some good attacking players, but really lack that striker who can lead the line (and we basically always have).

Makes no difference if there's a coach or not - it isn't as if Farina can come in, punt half a dozen players, replace them and start again, the contract and cap system isn't geared to that.

So if JG were to come in and Dimi got the punt Frankie would just have to get on with it. It would affect the careers of Chianese, Mallia and Powell but not the club or the structure so long as there's room under the cap.

And if he's available and affordable I say we should go for it. There is no point bringing in another defender - we have enough of those and our best combination is fine - but a quality finisher like Griffiths could add immeasurably to the team.

Not buying into the hype, just saying it would make sense to me.

Its bizzare but not for the reasons you stated.

Its bizzare cause you DONT HAVE A FUCKING COACH

This is the reason Sydney are in the trouble they're in. Signing players without a clear direction or a coach/manager with a playing style. Seriously who in they're right mind would want to manage this piece of shit football club. Its not like your Chelsea.

Every January the same thing comes out: Joel Griffiths to either Sydney or Newcastle. Tbh I don't understand why Sydney would make this a priority signing, they'd be better off getting a solid defender that will help them stop conceding goals.

Quite frankly this is a little bizarre. Up front we're fine, I don't think we need any more attacking prowes up front. It's at the back where we need it. Unless JG can play as a center-back, something which we all didn't know about him.

If true, it's a bit bizarre to be honest, but in the last 6-12 months, I've started to grow accustomed to bizarre Sydney FC news and signings.

But mind you, the butt hurt from the Newcastle supporters would be absolutely hilarious. The butt hurt when we signed Carle was delicious. This would top that.

Griffiths shooting for Sydney deal

0Comments

27 November 2012-SBS EXCLUSIVE
griffiths shanghai a-league sydney

Respected ... Griffiths was a big hit with fans in China (AAP)

Sydney FC could have a new coach and striker in the coming weeks with Joel Griffiths in talks over a move to the A-League club in the January transfer window.

Griffiths denies WSW rejection

Van Egmond rejects Sydney carrot

Sydney likely to punt Petratos

Farina looms as Sydney FC’s first choice

The Sky Blues are firming as the next destination for Griffiths either as a guest player or a long-term deal.

Poised to become a free agent after a season playing alongside Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka at Shanghai Shenhua, the 33-year-old former Newcastle Jets golden boot is keen to return to the A-League after four years in Asia.

Griffiths' Sydney-based representative Luke Torossian has already held preliminary talks with Sydney FC football director Gary Cole over a contract for the natural number nine, who can also operate wide on the right.

Former club Newcastle is also in the mix but Sydney – home of his younger brother Adam – appears to have the inside running on Griffiths who scored 19 goals in 56 appearances for Beijing Guoan and six in 18 for Shanghai.

While he also has options in the Chinese Super League, with a second child due soon, Sydney-raised Griffiths is ready to return to his roots – even though he will have to take a significant pay cut.

"There are some A-League clubs that are keen and I am now back in Australia thinking about my next move," he said.

"I can't join any club until January anyway but I am certainly open to offers. "There is a tremendous buzz around the A-League right now. It's getting a lot of hype and I would like to be a part of it.

“If my friends, most of who are footy players, are talking about the A-League then the competition must be doing something right.

"We'll wait and see what happens. If I come back to the A-League it won't be for money. It will be more about the lifestyle for my family."

Sydney FC, which looks set to imminently unveil former Australia and Brisbane Roar boss Frank Farina as its stop-gap replacement for Ian Crook, has been leaning heavily on the goals of Alessandro Del Piero and is in need of a proven finisher at the pointy end.

After being courted by Western Sydney Wanderers before failing to come to financial terms as recently as last month, Griffiths believes he is more than up to the task of delivering the goals the Sky Blues need to revive their season.

Though his arrival would not come until past the halfway mark of the season, he is convinced he make still make an impression after his experience in China with Drogba and Anelka.

"I am 33 but feeling really good and I had strong last half of the season in China," he said.

"I am coming off an incredible experience of playing alongside two of the best strikers to have played the game on the international stage in the last few years.

"You can't buy that sort of experience. You just learn from it and both those guys enjoyed passing on their knowledge. "I have become a far calmer player these days."
