Richmond Soccer Club is delighted to announce that Micky Petersen will join the club in 2013 as Coaching Development Advisor.

Mick represented the Socceroos over 54 times and won the NSL (the forerunner of the A-League) as both a player with Brunswick Juventus and South Melbourne and as a coach with South.

Micky is universally acknowledged as one of the finest midfielders to have been produced by Australia and was recruited at age 21 by Ajax of Amsterdam where he played with former Melbourne Heart Coach, John Van’t Schip.

Having been coached by such notable identities as Johann Cruyff, Ferenc Puskas and Ange Postecoglou, Micky’s coaching philosophy is one that concentrates on technique, touch, tempo and teamwork.

His role with Richmond will concentrate on establishing a coaching philosophy and importantly providing input and mentorship to all coaches from Under 6 to the First Team.

Newly appointed First Team Coach Jean Marc Imbert is delighted with the appointment with both of them recently exchanging views over their coaching philosophies and planning for season 2013.

Commenting on his new role Micky said “I was not actively looking to get actively involved in a club again, but I found the passion of the Richmond Board infectious.

They have ambitious plans for the club based on both player and coach development and a complete commitment to ensuring the administration and off field actvites are best practice”

Richmond SC President Wolfgang Smoger said of Petersen’s appointment “Micky will undoubtedly add value to the club across all age groups.

Having met with him a number of mes in recent days I was struck by the number of times he mentioned that coaches occupy a crucial role as football educators.

The research and due diligence we have undertaken leave us in no doubt that Micky is a crucial part of the future plans and direction of the club.

The acquisition of Micky and recent appointment of Jean-Marc Imbert and his assistant Tony Merakis are important steps in the long term strategy of the club.

We are delighted that Micky shares the Boards vision and enthusiasm as we position Richmond Soccer Club for more success.
