I just found out this kid player as a striker till he was 15 and then was concerted to a CB by Ian Crook during his NSWIS days.

Now are we going to see this new trend more into the future? Is this part of the national Cirriculum?

I know also Alistair Edwards converted the young lad from WA to a CB also who played for the joeys last year.

Anyone know?

Erm, hardly a new trend.

Majority of the talented kids that turn up for junior rep trials year in year out are strikers with their club side......been that way since day dot.

Nowt to do with dutch scammers or FFA [insert TLA] new dawn initiatives........Jacob Timpano was a gun striker at 15.

And FYI Crook has a history of shuffling any talented teenager more than 6' tall into a central defensive position.........hardly clever.

Converting a player from one position to another is far from rare all across the world; some notable players have started in other positions.

Perth's Danny Vukovic was considered one of the Hunter region's top potential strikers alongside Mark Bridge when they were both juniors. In Asia the Japanese-Brazilian defender Marcus Tulio Tanaka also started his career as a striker, slowly working his way through the midfield in his early J. League years until settling as a defender with Urawa Red Diamonds; he even finished last season playing the second half mostly as a striker for an injury-struck Nagoya Grampus, scoring four goals in his first game back in the position.

It's not the curriculum, but often coaches will see something in a good player that could help him shine in another position. This isn't just strikers moving further back, but also midfielders/defenders being played in a more advanced position. You see strikers being made wingers and wingers being made strikers, because coaches feel a player's ability could be useful/become even better by learning that role. Harry Kewell often played as a defender when he was a junior.

Part of the curriculum is to give players the opportunity to experience more than one role in their development. This won't just allow coaches to see where they may best be suited, but also gives the player themselves a better understanding of how these roles operate and how to play with/against them. (Part of the reason why defenders read their opponents well when they used to be a striker.)

When exactly did either these two play in the Hunter region?

Both StClair (Nepean Association) boys.

You know what pisses me off.

Strikers being moved to wing (or wing-forward in the 4-3-3 styled system) just because they are fast.

Does my head in. Popa is doing this to Kubi at Western Sydney. To the best of my knowledge he started as a striker, was played as a striker, got notices as a striker, and now he's playing on the wing.

Agree.

Forcing players into a rigid system that doesn't suit their talents.

Dumb coaching.

Agree kromsey........the mindless sticking to a rigid formation by drone coaches should always be the priority over the supremely talented player.

I'm not an Australian football historian. I'm not necessarily going to get their former playing geographies correct. If I'm wrong about the location, that's pretty damn insignificant.

No, just the writer of some incorrect information to which I kindly corrected you on.

Then why in fuck did you have to specifically mention it?

True, but write factually incorrect bollox and everything else tends to lose credibility.
